Carl,

Was wondering your thoughts on the 1959 bazooka football set that sold last night. Seemed a little high at $12,000 with only about 2 hrs to go. Not signed up with legendary, so no idea what it finally sold for. On that note I was surprised the the three complete Bazooka football boxes weren't doing a little better ( at least when I checked ) Thoughts?

The Bazooka set went for 14K before tax and buyers premium which puts it around 17K total. Seems expensive to me. From looking at the cards, they all look like they wouldn't grade higher than Authentic as they were cut inside the guide lines.

I predicted that they would sell for $15K and I was pretty close. Just to put it into perspective. 10+ years ago I thought I paid a fortune for the Tracey card. Immediately after the auction I received an email asking me to sell the card and they had been looking for it for 10 years. Of course now with Ebay in full swing its much easier to complete sets these days - But believe me there are some sets that are really tough to complete and especially those last few.

Here are a few very challenging sets - 1950 Bread for Health, 1926 Shotwell Ad Back 12-card set (now 13 with my most recent discovery), 30's Wheaties with Full Borders. 1969 Eskimo Pie (just ask Mike Blaisdell), 1960 Bell Brand Rams with SP Selawski, 1933 Diamond Matchbook (both colors). 1956 Shredded Wheat CFL (they held back one card for each team so you couldn't get the prize), to name a few.

I agree the challenge will be the last several cards. Most of the difficult sets are like that. It's easy to get the commons but not the SP's, errors, or stars.

However, I believe this set can be put together using ebay for between 10K - 13K in Auth grade if you are patient. As a collector and not a dealer, patience has become my middle name so I dropped out when it reached my price estimate for this set.

Carl--Besides tough sets, try getting any '48 Leaf with white backgrounds.
