I never understood the 12 21 '12 thing. I guess they're looking for continuity in the numbers, BUT the year is 2012 and not 12. Holding the continuity, in theory, it would technically end on either 12/20/2012 or 12/21/2112... Unless you wanna take the numbers individually, as opposed to treating them all as double digit numbers, then you're looking at 12/02/2021. I'd feel safe with 12/22/2221... Maybe, 03/29/9230?

Certain ancient civilizations come up with this as an end date- or, as some would like to interpret it, a new begining.......

The Mayan calender ends on this date. Their codex shows a face spewing water out of it down upon the Earth on 12-21-2012. Some people read into this as meaning there will be "great floods"........possibly, or it could mean "a great cleansing".
The Mayans were somehow amazing astronomers, especially for those times?
How did they do it with such precision?

Anyhow, I'm really into all of this stuff, but I'm not convinced the world will end- and if it does, oh well- what the hell can we do about it? I worry more about what seems to be happening in the world right now (and I can't do anything about any of that either) and my only suggestion is for everyone to make sure you have food and water reserves, for awhile, as well as candles, protection, baby wipes (to clean yourself if there's no water).....you get the point.

On another note....the freakiest thing has been happening to me for probably almost 3 years now. I see 11:11 everywhere, almost every day. Clock, microwave, casino......everywhere. At first, I just thought it was weird that I keep looking at the clock at that time without even thinking about it. Then, it started happening so often I thought I'd put it into the internet search bar and see what came up.

I was suprised that it appears that this is some type of "phenomenon" that's been going on for awhile. The problem is, there's a lot of "interesting" (removed the word "kooks" to be pc:p) people who have some far out ideas on what this means. Not saying any of them are right or wrong- but some of their ideas are pretty far out.

The freaky thing to me is about 6 months ago?(not sure how long) I found out that the Mayan calender actually ends on 12-21-2012 at 11:11.

Sincerely, Clayton

Thanks Clayton. I already knew that. My statement was more tongue in cheek, to mess with the uninformed..

The Mayans made calendars for then present and into the future. For whatever reason, the last calendar they made was for 2112. There is no record of the Mayans saying 2112 is the last year of the world. It was just the last calendar they made. The 'end of the world' is just an interpretation some modern people make.

A good comparison is if you buy a multi-year desk calendar from Hallmark, say for the years 2112, 2113, 2114 and 2115. Of course Hallmark isn't saying with this calendar that the world ends after 2115. They simply made a calendar for four years.

And, besides, even if the Mayans said 2112 was the last year of the world, that doesn't mean they had any idea what they were talking about. Though I understand some people just love those "ancient prophesies."

In short, I just got off the phone with Hallmark, and they want to assure us that there will be a 2116. Assuming you purchase their line of 2116 products.

:D I should've known......I think I was just delighted that someone started a thread about this :)

@David C.- I totally understand where you are coming from, and to an extent agree.......and I think you may be listening to RUSH lately? :D (jk) 2112

Well, we all know that there will at least be a 2015... Duh! Marty McFly and Doc Brown have been there...

but when they went back to the old west in part 3 they may have screwed up the "space-time continuum" and therefore caused an earlier end to the world......

OR, maybe the world was originally supposed to end in 2012, but the trip to the old west in part 3 screwed up the time continuum, making it possible for them to have traveled to 2015 in part 2... Also resulting in the state of the world, 500 years in the future, as seen in Idiocracy...

There really is no upside to predicting the end of the world other than to draw attention to yourself.

If it doesn't happen then you're an idiot and if it does, you can't go around saying "I told you so".

unless of course your prediction alters behaviors that in turn change the space-time continuum

I was really upset on hearing this news. When they made their comeback in the 1980s, approximately 6-9 mos before that, I had a huge resurgence for them all on my own. I got all of my friends listening to them while we were partying like it was 1999 and we had a blast. RIP Davy......you will be sorely missed.

I saw a show where they interviewed a few people about this world ending thing. The mayan cultural guy who was a descendant was the most interesting. he said that other writings refered to astronomical events expected in 4000 something. So the calendar was just a calendar.

His next point was that he had a calendar hanging behind his desk that ended on dec 31 2011. And that he didn't expect the world to end then, just the usefulness of the calendar.:)

of course, those in the know have the truth - On dec 21 there will be a "rapture" for all baseball cards made between 1986 and 1993. They will be entirely removed from the earth and the resulting loss of mass will cause the earth to leave it's orbit thus ending life as we know it. (So make sure to put them all outdoors, lest you require roof repairs)
