Hello everyone. Here is a link to a photo postcard that claims to be a picture of a team from Kentucky from 1922. I was wondering what my fellow board members opinions were on it. I have found no record of Harrodsburg having a team in 1922. They were not in the Bluegrass League or the Kitty league in that year. I know of course they may have had a independent team of their own but I am not sure. What do you guys think?

We certainly have a few Kentucky collectors on the board so they might be able to help? The seller, in his description, says it has KY written on the back but he is not sure....so it's not like he is touting it too heavily or embellishing too much. In my experience, most times but not all times, those kind of writings are accurate. Now, if they say Cobb, Jackson, Ruth etc....then I raise an eyebrow. But when they have some trivial information there is usually no motive for profit. Just my half cent...

Yeah I did not mean to imply that he was being misleading. I just meant that I have reservations on it being a Kentucky team. It would be great if it is because I would love to have it in that case. Thanks again

Hey Tony
I understand and know you weren't implying anything. I was just giving a thought on it. Also, many times when someone responds, even if they don't exactly answer the question at hand, it elicits other responses :). That was my hope on this one. One last thought, many times these generic postcards (which I collect quite a few of) can't be positively identified. Hopefully that isn't the case here. take care

Hey guys...

I saw that, and didn't think Harrodsburg ever had a team. But they had one for one year, 1892, they had a 1-8 record, nailing down last place in a 4 team league...

As for that postcard, maybe a town team or a high school team, and I'd guess the former. The thing to do would be to scour issues of a 1922 newspaper and see what turns up.

It looks real enough. But I would have expected a photo of the entire team. When I see composites like that, I think that individual pictures were taken and offered to the players or whoever, then the images were assembled into what we see there.

I'm leaving it alone.

The July 17, 1909 Sporting Life mentions that Central Kentucky will have a six club league called Central Kentucky Amateur Base Ball League including Harrodsburg with manager J. Hall Grimes.
I think if we can get the names of the players shown on the card it might be possible to pin it down.

The 1922 Harrodsburg team played in a Kentucky semi-pro league. Some of the other teams in the league were Danville, Lebanon, and Gravel Switch.
