On a new Ted Williams thread appearing here, a member stated that two Williams signatures differed from one another, so at least one must be a fake. I'm no expert on Ted's signature, and that might be true for him, but, in general, a person's signature can vary quite a bit.

Here are five Gehrig signatures. They are all genuine.

As I have said many times before, I am not a real autograph collector. That being said, I have often wondered about this. For work, I sign 500 or more checks a week. My signature could differ on almost every check (especially if I am rushed).

My question to the autograph experts, is how do you get comfortable with a signature if there are many known exemplars?

Study and learn for a long time. :D I could produce at least ten Neil Armstrong signature styles that are all very different, yet authentic. Many of them share very subtle common characteristics, however.
