I have the itch to play (but the weather and my work sched won't cooperate) so I used some ebay gift cards on these to start the new year:

great cards Tim. Nice start to 2012!

I haven't really collected them in the past - but the 81 Donruss look pretty cool. I may have to start collecting those.

another pickup arrived today.

I thought the image was awesome and am very happy to have won this auction.

from the eBay description:

1955 Ben Hogan Professional Golf 4 x 5 Original Negative
Original, one of a kind, 4 x 5' black and white negative of Ben Hogan at a Professional Golf Match. From the archives of an Oakland based newspaper.

What a fantastic image. It is interesting that I wonder how many are actually playing - looks like two only - and 3 other greats are standing around watching. That wouldnt happen today. (surely they are not playing a 5 ball) - I love the way the caddie has got the clubs held - I am suprised the clubs dont fall out!
Great image of Hogan as well what a beauty.
Thank you for posting these.

just a follow-up to the 1955 Ben Hogan 4x5 negative.....

I emailed the eBay seller asking if he had any additional information about the image (course, tournament, etc.).

He mentioned it was from Hogan's match with Jack Fleck.
The year (1955), the opponent (Jack Fleck), and the source of the image (California newspaper) - would all put this image at the 1955 US Open.

Possibly during the playoff round where Hogan lost the US Open to Jack Fleck.

1904 - Old Tom Morris.....
Postally used in 1904.
This one has awesome golf content on the back (and I didn't even see the back in the auction listing).
It reads:
"Tom Morris is well over 80 years of age and in his early days was the Golf Champion. He now looks after the course & is a fine (hale?) old man. This picture is exceedingly like him. PPR"
