Thanks to a fellow board member for selling me this Orange Background Wagner! Just the Blue one to go! Please see my Want List of E98s on the BST, and if you are in need of $ for the New Year's upcoming auctions, please consider selling me one of the ones that I need if you have one. Thanks for looking! Tim Kindler

His nickname is "bald"? Must have been a really good sport. I wonder if they called him that to his face? Looks kind of like Robert Duvall to me.

Tim- Nice Wagner! As I recall the orange background Honus was the toughest of the 4 for me to find. Greens and blues are out there, red was tough but orange for this player was very hard to find.

I picked up this bat, a HOF sidewritten 1921 Bill (Wm) McKechnie Gamer. During bidding i began research, because at first it didnt make sense why McKechnie would have a gamer in 1921, as to he didnt start coaching Pittsburgh till 1923, well the Block Letter Lober, played in the AA (milwaukee) , and sure enough research showed Bill played that very same year in AA (Minneapolis) .....nice HOF gamer at a steal....

I just recently decided to start up my Addie Joss collection, again. When I saw 'Skydash' on the flip, I knew I must have it. One of the most fascinating threads of all time, and now I own, and cherish, a small part of it...

Fortunately for the Washington Senators, Saccramento dealt George Earl McNeely to the Senators in August 1924, because it was McNeely's bad-hop ground-ball base hit that bounced over Freddie Lindstrom's head, driving in Muddy Ruel with the winning run in the bottom of the 12th inning of the 7th game of the 1924 World Series, making WaJo the winning pitcher of Washington's only World Series Championship!

It seems strange to me that McNeely's name is spelled correctly on his 1922 & 1924 Zeenuts cards, but incorrectly on his 1923 Zeenuts card. Thanks again to Mark M. for these 3 McNeely Zeenuts.

I recently won the April 6, 1916 edition of The Sporting News, which contains the first ad placed in that periodical by Felix Mendelsohn promoting his m101 set. The ad is 4 1/2 x 9", and is in much better shape than the rest of the issue:

My stuff usually doesnt hold a candle to the amazing items that come across here; but Im extremely pleased with these pickups Ive made over the past 2+ weeks. Given that I try to collect these specific players; finding them in these sets (or in any set, in the case of HW Rip Collins) requires some patience. Mike,
That is a great card. I'm not sure if you were aware, but your Evers is missing a layer of color (Red I think). I have seen a handful of E93s like this. I have one Evers and also a Plank and a Tinker missing a layer of ink. Very cool. Here are my two Evers (yellow and orange) for comparison. 99% of E93 Evers I have seen are orange. Yours is only the second "yellow" Evers example I have seen. You can tell by looking at the face and glove that it is not just faded, but missing a layer of ink.

My Dad gave me this card for Christmas which was celebrated late this year. He purchased it 25 years ago at a local show in 1985 we figure. I was insistant for him to buy the card, I found, for 50 cents when i was 8 yrs old. He thought it could be something that gets passed down because of the memory involved with the card and it involved both of us. I think its the second most valuable card I own.

Technically not new pickups, but just got these back today from SGC.

I have 103 T206 Tolstoi backed cards. I hope to go over 50% of the confirmed list this year.

Also finally have all the basic Rube Waddell T206 front back combos. 15 in total (8 portrait, 7 throwing). I hope to get a nice picture of them all soon.

Thanks! I noticed that too once the other Cobbs started to show up. The print is bolder than the red Cobbs so I would have to to go on a limb and say that it is possibly orange. I wanted to get the other T206 Cobbs in the set but I love the reds, which might not have been the wisest choice considering how many the are. Still looking though......

with every new T205 I pick up, the more I fall in love with this set. It amazes me that this set seems to get so much less attention than T206s. While I understand the absence of action shots is a strike against it, everything else about it is amazing. The portraits are incredible, the facsimile autographs on the NL player cards, the full write-ups, the gold borders...these are like T206s on crack AND steroids!!! Anyway, back to enjoying the humble start of my T205 collection...

Thanks guys. I'm very happy with it. It is really clean and the focus is dead on. The first pre-war card I bought was this card, but in a PSA 8, back in 2000. I quickly realized that I would have a very small collection if I kept going after 8's. So I sold it and started going after mid-grade cards and I have no regrets. It's a thrill to find mid-grade cards with great eye appeal. :)

is it the belief that they are undervalued?

I don't collect this set, but I think it's because many people like how the set looks and that the cards are reasonably affordable. Also, there is an iconic card in the set, i.e., the T210 Shoeless Joe Jackson, which is arguably his most valuable card.

I think its one of cleanest looking sets out there, if I decide to move away from the T206s, it is high on my list of potential sets.

Don't forget the T210 Casey Stengel which is also a very popular (and expensive) card as well.

interesting opinion....i bet if they were color lithographs instead of black and white, their popularity would be off the charts...

for those of you that collect T210, i want to know why..

since they are all minor leaguers, you cant be player collectors..is it for the thrill of the chase? have you completed sets of real Major leaguers already?
is it the belief that they are undervalued?

thanks for the response...

I collect -2's because they are all Virginia Based teams and the set has 15+ Hometown Richmond Colt Cards to collect. And its alot more challenging than my other collections by far.

Lots of minor league issues are highly collected. Obaks and Zeenuts come to mind. I collect T210's because they offer cards of teams that you can't find with any other set. If it weren't for the T210 set, the T206 Foley White card would be the only pre-war card made of a Houston Buffalo player. On top of that I think they're gorgeous cards.

Maybe Im the one guy who bought a T210 minor leaguer based on the player and not on the set. Or maybe not. Collecting interests can be extremely diverse.

Scott - I love T210's for many reasons including (in no particular order) :

- Massive set with many scarce cards which presents a bit of a challenge and also a solid number of rare cards that you may only see once in your lifetime.
- The set contains many Major Leaguer's with a story to tell... (Fun research set)
- The set can be collected by portrait, batters, fielders, catchers with gear, or by town or city, state, team, league, or even by series. (8 series - 51 teams)

A collector can collect this set in such a variety of ways. I have enjoyed collecting the set over the last decade + and it still excites me.

Living in the Columbia, SC area it was a natural to collect T210 Series 1 Columbia players. I've considered jumping on Charleston, Greenville, etc. but haven't made the move yet.

Well, since the January 2012 pickup thread is getting less attention than the January 2011, I just wanted to round it out with a Thank You to David:

I've wanted one of the 1908 George Wright Postcard of Morgan Bulkeley for a long time now. And somehow I ended up with two of these beauties from the bay...One with address lines, and one without. Every other one I've seen so far has had the lines. YAY! VARIATIONS :D
