Well, I just got home from a crazy night at work. Hope everyone had a fun and safe New Years Eve. My new year of collecting starts off the same way 2011 did, with a TYPE 1 photograph of the Iron Horse. This one is from 1932.

Happy New Year, buddy!

I love this bat!:D It came from Pennsylvania. It's approximately 6ft tall, solid, and retains it's original appearance and finish. I've only seen one other that was smaller. I had assumed this was a storefront sign displayed in front of a sporting goods store. After I had bought it the guy said it came from a baseball bat factory and had been displayed there. As you can see it was displayed from the handle end hanging down. I won't alter the originality of the piece one bit like drilling holes, etc but I want to display the bat horizontally with some old leather straps.

I was lucky enough to obtain this vintage photo today at a local New Years Day auction and it is of a team from Freeport, Illinois near where I live. It measures 13X12.5 in size. There are several names written on the backside but no one of importance that I see and also no date. I am wanting to know if anyone can pin down the approximate time-frame this might have been taken given the types of uniforms/equipment/etc. displayed in the picture and what the present day value might be given it is only a local team with no major leaguers that I know of shown in the photograph. Thanks for any help or comments.

You have a very nice image. It is a great pose with lots of equipment visible. I would place it at about 1880-1885 with a value of $200.-$300., if it is not a copy. What paper stock is the photo on?

sicollector1954
01-01-2012, 05:16 PM
Thanks. It resembles cardboard on the backside. There is very faded writing of who was on the team and someone has copied directly over those signatures with pen indicated the names....unfortunately, not all of them... only 7 total.

Michael/Ruth-Gehrig, Congrats on that bat....muat have been a tall porch to hang it vertical...I agree with the leather straps or what ever to hang it...you're going the right way to not alter it from it's original state, if possible.

I saw another similar one last May at Brimfield which I addressed in the story I wrote. See link to it above, which has multiple photos...Mat, whoa that's a big'un...I shoulda known you'd have one being the folk art guy you are.

In other news...went to the monthly Alameda show today...got there late...basically just looking for eBay fodder...found a big'ol Americana engraving titled "Distinguished Americans - In a meeting of the New York Historical society" c1854 for $25.00 including the huge plastic sleeve...in poor condition with stains and tears, and trimmed...typical lotta band for the buck/won't make jack on eBay find...A nice copy runs about $1,400.00...lucky if it breaks $50.00 on eBay...why do I get invloved?

Half way thru the show I spotted two big blow up photos, one of Ruth the other Gerhig...guy said he just sold them...had been asking $75.00 each all day...sold them for $40.00 each...looked like maybe from the 60's-70's so at least they had a little age...the Gerhig one was what caught my attention....never seen that shot before...

You're right David. We were born too late. Also, agree with Mark, nice catch indeed!

This came in yesterday's mail. c. 1920's B.F. Keith's Theatre - BABE RUTH Himself - Advertising Handout Promoting the Bambino "HIMSELF" in his One Man Vaudeville Show.

5313853139

Born and raised on a New Hampshire farm, B. F. Keith began his
show business career in the 1870s working in circuses. In 1883 he
opened a dime museum in Boston and soon began presenting live
variety acts in its 300-seat theater. With his partner Edward F.
Albee, Keith leased several regular theaters in the Northeast,
presenting low-priced, completely respectable “vaudeville” shows
that ran continuously from morning to night. In the early twentieth
century the Keith-Albee Circuit came to dominate big-time
vaudeville.

Besides being a great Cincinnati piece, I love the picture. Did a player really stand behind the target when the pitcher was practicing throwing at it? Pitchers must have been a lot more accurate back then...

I was told that the target man was Honus. I see a resemblance, but why him?..

Dave, I believe this depicts a pitching excersize for picking off a steal at second base. I like the partial Morelein's Beer sign along the dasher.

Here are some early 2012 pickups that I really like:

1) Extremely rare dated May 30, 1912 ticket stub to HOF Rube Marquard's 43rd career win.
Marquard pitched the AM 1st game of a twinbill at Baker Bowl in Philly. The NY Giants win 7-1 behind twirler Marquard's excellent pitching. Marquard would lead the NL circuit with 26 wins in 1912, which proved to be the high water mark in his career.

2) Beautifully scored program and ticket stub from September 27, 1961 at Phillies. Sandy Koufax passes HOF Christy Mathewson for the NL single-season strikeout record with 269 K's. Mathewson's former record that stood for 58 years was 267 K's. Koufax would continue to improve on this record, ultimately ending up with the current NL strikeout standard of excellence of 382 K's in 1965. The only pitcher that ever struck out more in a single-season was fellow HOF'er Nolan Ryan with 383 K's in 1973 in the AL. These records will never be broken because of specialized pitching.

The patron that scored this game and sat in this seat was a long time season ticket holder with the Phillies and avid fan. The job that he did scoring it is nothing less than spectacular. Both ticket and program are in remarkable condition for being 50 years old...

They were actually purchased last month and arrived earlier this week. I purchased 4 Lazzeri pictures for some reason. They are all Type 1, if anyone is interested in one of them let me know. I think the 1955 Kaline and 1938 Hubbell in the dugout shots would look great as paintings but I can barely afford the photographs. Graig's talents are way out of my league. Although I primarily collect hall of fame members I could not resist the Castro photogaph. I am willing to bet his team won that game:D

Action weekend for hunting sports antiques...I went to a paper show in Golden Gate Park yesterday in S.F. held at the Hall of Flowers...I didn't get there till about an hour and forty five before they closed. They hold that show twice a year I believe it is...Over the years I've gone to it and found practically nothing...then again I've gone to it and scored big...see this link (http://www.sportsantiques.com/latestacquistions.htm) for an epic c1914 All Vallejos vs Yosemites of San Francisco football broadside I picked up there in 2010....

Anyway..I missed the last show...and was determined to make it to this one. I wasn't in the mood to spend much money after the golf clock I just got so what ever I found had to be eBay flip-able or too good to pass up...bingo...

http://www.allalaskasweepstakes.org/History.html
I picked up something I'm wild over and is guaranteed to test the limits of this boards "all sports inclusive policy" LOL...Dog Sled Racing!!!!! I spotted this photo below within the first twenty minutes and it was love at first bite..I mean site. 31 1/2” x 13” 1908 photo from Nome Alaska of an early dog sled race team...titled: ”BERGER’S RACE TEAM – FIRST ANNUAL ALL ALASKA SWEEPSTAKE”, see link above to All Alaska Sweepstakes website. From a cursory review I believe this team won the Sweepstakes in 1909..where as my photo is marked 1908...It will be fun to research this. I took the photo of it last night on the fly in my trunk as leaving the show...yeah has some damage....but find another...it'll frame up nice

c1908, 31 1/2” x 13”

http://beercanhistory.com/regal.htm
So then today I hit the Sacramento Antiques Fair...I had finished two combs and was about to leave for church, but would have been early so decided to take one more quick run thru...and there it was....the dealer didn't have it out earlier...a late 1950's/early 60's advertising sign for Regal Pale. It wasn't cheap but I couldn't leave without it. Funny thing...we were talking and the dealer said he'd gotten it at Alameda last week...He said it was about 6:00AM and a guy was unloading a whole collection of Regal Pale stuff and people were surrounding the guy like sharks and buying up everything...said this was the only sports sign and he got it and he had to pay money for it....So essentially it hasn't been out for sale too long...today or last week! I found out a lot about Regal Pale in a page linked above. It's really late for me to collect but I couldn't resist it's size and impact...As I mulled it over I concluded I can'tever recall seeing any advertising signs with boxing graphics of it's quality...

I like the leather re-enforcement on the toe of the cleat (where Vandy's foot would push off the rubber). But even better is the apparent "tipped finger" glove. I was aware of very early gloves like this from the 1800s, but don't think I've ever seen a 1940s tipped finger model.

Hoping one of the glove guys can shed some light on what maker/model of glove this might be...

The finger tips on Vandy's glove are actually seams that were placed along the knuckles to give the fingers of the glove more of a natural curvature. They're not actually capped like a 19th century catcher's glove would be. By the looks of it, he's probably wearing a glove made by Spalding or one of its sub-brands.

perezfan
01-09-2012, 12:33 AM
Thanks William... very interesting about the curvature.

From the photo, it looks like the leather is darker above those seams (towards the finger tips), making them appear "capped". Guess it's just an illusion.

I'm sure that Graig appreciates this unnecessary over-analysis. Probably making him uneasy about painting this one... sorry!

Last night I picked up 11 signed baseball magazines in a large ebay auction. None of them were vintage although some were 1950's and 60's, and all but one were Yankees themed, but the one that wasn't was one I've been looking for the last 7 years. A nicely signed 1973 Sporting News signed by Catfish Hunter, Vida Blue, and Ken Holtzman. I've only seen one other and it had some really bad sigs on them (think CC), so I'm really jazzed!!

Yes indeed Catfish passed on in 1999 from a fall brought on from complications from Lou Gehrig's disease. Catfish was one of my all time favorite players.

The Ebay seller said it is from 1935 based on the model of Ford, which if so is 4 years before McCoskey made the majors.

The Ford V-8 team played against a local team from Traverse City, Michigan

I'm 100% convinced that is Barney McCoskey...almost all the rest of those guys were minor leaguers in the mid 1930s...mostly from the Mid Atlantic and Piedmont Leagues.

Just a quick question as I was re scaning the 1928 photo for someone I scaned the back also and just noticed that it looked to me that the photo was a 1927 with a 8 put over the 7. Not that it matters to me either way as I love the photo but I was also told that the uniform is from 1927. You can see that the pencil change was done from the original writer. Wanted some input on the uniform being 1927.

Picked this up in an antique mall today. I've not seen this style before. The felt feels 50s, but it could be 60s. Pre 1969 for sure (no mlb logo).

One of my main focus areas is baseball board games - and skill games are part of it.

I picked this one up last week - and I'm amazed what the difference a week makes.

I saw one in Yee's auction - saved it - but found it out of my price range almost immediately - game collectors just won't pay big bucks for these.

It's probably from the late 30s - 40s and the one I picked up is in nice shape!

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y202/stone193/Screenshot2012-01-03at82332PM.png?t=1325643900

I paid $46 for this one - the one in Yee's auction went for a whopping $186! I'm guessing two guys wanted it really bad - not sure why otherwise - I'm sure the allusion to "Babe" may have been the reason? Sure was a sneaky way to evoke interest in a toy without paying a penny to Ruth? If this game actually said "Babe" on it? Who knows what it would've brought in Yee's auction.

It hardly seems worth posting after the tremendous items thus far, but I picked up this small Adirondack Bat Factory piece when I stopped for a little rest this afternoon. I love that Larry Doby was already part of their signature group by this point and that Bobby Thomson is also on the cover (didn't he do something important with a bat in 1951?) I wonder if I can still get a dozen Larry Doby bats for $18.90? And I'll take one of the Joe Garagiola sticks as long as it doesn't tell Me and Yogi stories.

Well as Jimmy and I always think alike I was able to work a nice deal on 4 Gehrigs. the fourth from 1935.

Actually Al, I think the fourth is from a group of pics taken before the 1936 WS. Keep an eye out for the secong in that group showing the end of his swing.
The grouping includes 2 double pics of Lou's swing, 2 double pics of Mel Ott's swing, and Dual pics of Lou and Mel Shaking hands(there are a couple different)

Here are a couple of mine from that group.
Lou's full swing
I've got to get them out of the frame to scan the backs sometime.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v222/lordstan/Lou/LouSwing.jpg

Lou and Mel. Bought it slabbed.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v222/lordstan/My%20Lou%20Gehrig%20stuff/LG-1936WithOtt.jpg

The other Lou and Mel together is where they are shaking hands. I think it was used for the cover of 1937 Best Slugger book.

Those pics are beautiful! Great job.
If Jimmy doesn't get them, LMK if you ever want to get rid of the other Gehrigs.

Ben,
That Ruth is a tremendous pic as well, but I like the painting even more. I am partial to Kreindlercolor.

Jimmy,
Classic Gehrig swinging shot. I am sure there are lots of companion pieces for that picture. Happy Hunting!

Best,
Mark

Ha! I am an idiot!:D:D
I was just looking these pics over and realized it isn't Gehrig!
It's Mel Ott watching Bartell score. I realized this as I looked at the socks. They match Bartell's and not Dickey's. Of course, i could've just read the tag on the back of the top picture.

See, This is what happens when you drink and scan stuff late at night.
So the message to all you young folks is don't drink and scan!

A couple of other interesting points I noted are.
On first glance they look the same, but they aren't. They were taken milliseconds from each other. Look at how Bartell's arms and legs are from very slightly different points of the same stride. I think the second photo comes first as the umpire's front foot is slightly higher in that pic. He is stepping forward so the second one should come first.
Also, they are from different angles. The photographer of the second was to the right and lower than the top one. You can tell by the orientation of home plate as well as the view of the Dugout on the second pic.

Sean,
I guess I just never thought of getting Bartell. Dickey was at a show in Conn. in the mid 80's. That's when he signed them.

They were in the same binder as the others, I just had a chance to scan them today.

All of these are promo shots for Pride of the Yankees.
From the uniformity of the tags on the back, I think it is possible that these were part of some sort of press or advertising kit perhaps. They are original and vintage.

This is the last few I scanned. I promise not to post more for a while. I don't want to hog the thread.

The first is the last from the Pride of the Ynakees group.
The next is a Butterfinger.
The third and fourth I need a little help on as I don't know what issues they are. PLMK if you recognize them.
Thanks,

Been kinda close to broke lately, but I did manage to pick up a few more guide pages featuring hard or seemingly impossible for me to find players for my collection.. Moonlight Graham in the 1907(1908) Scranton page, and Louis Sockalexis on the 1902(1903) Lowell page.

2 weeks after I picked up my 6ft baseball bat(page 1 of this thread) I found this small one. I love the homemade feel of it especially evident by looking at the knob. At the same antique mall I found this neat 1928 Hall's Baseball game with original instructions that appears to never have been played.

Thats a beautiful Vander Meer would love to see Graigs efforts on that one. Please post it when he completes it. These are my last pick ups unitl June.

Regarding post #47; Boy Mike. You have a terrific eye there! Very nice pick-ups.

Two great pickups this week:

- Circa 1940's original cartoon artwork of Johnny Vander Meer by Cincinnati artist Russ that was a regular contributor to News of the Reds. This came to me from fellow net54 collector Laughlinfan. Thanks Marty, I love it!
Dimensions are approximately 9" x 14".

- Another tremendous pickup for my advanced Walter Johnson collection. A terrific 1929 steel tipped fountain pen 3 x 5 of HOF'er Walter Johnson. One of the nicest I have ever seen. Thanks Greg (Gnaz on net54)!

OK so I picked up a nice little picture last week and finally got it today.

1923 World Series Game 5 10/14/23 By Paul Thompson.
Showing Joe Dugan scoring on his inside the park HR in the botom of the second inning. Whitey Witt and Bullet Joe Bush scored in front of him. Babe Ruth is standing by pointing to the plate, as he was on deck behind Dugan in the lineup.
Also pictured is Hank Gowdy catching for the NY Giants, Home Plate Umpire HOFer Billy Evans, and batboy Eddie Bennett.

Jeez Mark. That is a great, GREAT photograph! I've never seen such a stellar early image from such an important game. That is quite spectacular. I mean, just look how much is going on there. An extremely historic photo from Yankee Stadium's Inaugural Season that also saw them bring home their first of many World Series Titles... and a Thompson photo to boot. It don't get much better than that!

A friend sent me an email a couple of weeks ago regarding a few really neat 1960's Beatles items that he recently discovered at his Father's home. My friend told his Dad that he had a friend that was a Beatles collector. His Father told him to make a deal. Several days later, these arrived. :D

This large poster c. 1965 Beatles Live at Shea - Film for all who weren't lucky enough to see them live, they could catch the movie at select theaters. And just how cool is it that the 3 Stooges "short" was the opening act for The Fab Four!

The second piece was this terrific Beatles Wallet still in it's original packaging! I just love stuff like that. :) Both of these pieces literally hadn't seen the light of day for over forty years!

5463854639

And boy, was I surprised to find a bonus piece he included. This sweet c. 1975 Poster that was surely meant to grace the walls of your neighborhood Music Store. As you can see, it displays all of the albums the Boys produced as both from their years together and through their solo careers up to that point, which was 1975.

Ya know, I really like my collection... A LOT! But it's the friendships that are forged, and the memories you have from them, that will stay with you long after your collection has been sold... :)

New HOF signed ball of Bobby Doerr. Also, happens to be on a Senior League balls, so it also adds a new professional ball type to my collection as well. Came from Dennis C. Purdy with his COA. I don't know much about him other than his time at VCBC, but the ball looked ok to me(From my experience his B's are generally all over the board, and you typically don't see many down-turns on the D, but I decided to give it a go). Found a really nice 2 page handwritten Joe Paterno letter, Not something I usually would pick up but the price seemed right. Thought it had good content and is pre head coach days. Actually written at the time the Jerry Sandusky was on a DE on the PSU team. I really dont recall seeing a handwritten letter latley usually the later typed recruiting letters simply signed Joe. If anyone is interested let me know as I am not attached to it and will be looking to move it in the future.

Nice jersey Clint! How many does that make in your collection now?

I just picked up a previously unknown (to me) Nebraska Indians postcard...same design as another I have, but this one has the team name and statistics listed at the top...interestingly enough though the team in 1914 was actually known as "Beltzer's Nebraska Indians" as Guy green no longer owned the team...the Beltzer brothers are both pictured on this postcard.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b331/nudan92/Nebraska%20Indians%20Baseball%20Team/1914nebind.jpg

Also picked up a few cuts from old Spalding guides of the team....these cuts have really helped me identify some of the players on my other postcards and photos.

Read more about this broadside on my home page www.SportsAntiques.com

It's been a good January for broadsides..one of my favorite collecting areas. I picked up the three above over the last month. One of the best aspects a broadside can have is the year plainly announced...and the FB and the balloning both have the year...the Yale one is a little tougher...no sport indicated. I'm pretty positive the Yale vs. Riverview was for Riverview Military Academy, in Poughkeepsie New York...opened in 1866, closed in the 20's ...The two schools are about 80 miles apart. And I think it would have been for baseball being that it was in May....and the word "game" called at 3:30, is used as opposed to a "meet" or "regatta" or "race" or something...

The football one is for Harvard freshmen vs Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire NH...Harvard and Exeter were very tight at the turn of the century...Exeter had the first cinder track and Harvard would travel there to use it...The broadside is a pink color.
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc120/CarltonHendricks/?action=view&amp;current=ExeterHarvardNYT1908-1.png" target="_blank"><img src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc120/CarltonHendricks/ExeterHarvardNYT1908-1.png" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

All three are so fragile I hesitate to even touch them any more than necessary until I get them framed. The French ballooning one is so big 33 1/2" x 16 1/2" and it's so fragile I'm amazed it's in such good shape. I asked the seller where he got it and he couldn't remember and said he'd had it a long time and stored it carefully.

<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc120/CarltonHendricks/?action=view&amp;current=WheatpastingLitho.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc120/CarltonHendricks/WheatpastingLitho.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc120/CarltonHendricks/?action=view&amp;current=BroadsidesWall1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc120/CarltonHendricks/BroadsidesWall1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc120/CarltonHendricks/?action=view&amp;current=NYBillPoster.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc120/CarltonHendricks/NYBillPoster.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

You find antique broadsides printed on various weight paper...from heavy cardstock to very light paper. All the ones above are on very lightweight paper. The lightweight ones are interesting...Broadsides printed on cardstock would have had to have been pinned or nailed to display...But I think these lightweight paper ones were dipped in a wheat paste solution and pasted to a wall. As I recall from reading up on it years ago...the persons who went around pasting posters to walls and fences were called bill posters and I suppose it was a profession of sorts. I speculate during the 19th - early 20th century a school or business or some entity would place an order for a broadside with a printing house and perhaps the printing house would hire a bill poster to go around with a stack of broadsides pasting them up. As I recall this was common in London and Paris...and no doubt here in America. Obviously the lightweight ones that have survived never got posted. The bigger a broadside the more rare.

<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc120/CarltonHendricks/?action=view&amp;current=Frederick_Douglass.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc120/CarltonHendricks/Frederick_Douglass.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
Occasionally I'll buy a non sports broadside. Probably the greatest non sport broadside I ever saw was a could'a should'a....It was probably 5 years ago...I saw it on eBay and swung too low...It was a lecture broadside for Frederick Douglas the 19th century African American social reformer...It was about four feet tall and his name was in huge elongated font...a total classic...but it was in real bad shape....But if ever there was a broadside worth restoring!!! Phew!...I've never forgotten that one.

I've had this on my want list for awhile and finally nabbed one. The best news is that its in great shape and was on sale for 25% off. Nice!!

Nice Scott. Anytime you can find a decent baseball relic at an antique mall, and it is not grossly overpriced, it is a bonus. I seem to find that quality baseball related items are few and far between these days at the antique stores.

Sweet! You got it...I was wondering how that deal was coming along. :) Do you know who wore those Wichita State jerseys?

Yep I picked it up yesterday. He emailed me and said come and get it. I was pretty excited. The grey Wichita State jersey belonged to Lewallen and the yellow was Linden. No big name players. I think WSU and the sports museum have all the big time jerseys.

Ben, well I'll let that Creighton remark slide, for now. :)

Adam and Michael,
It's interesting, but I infrequently ever get a chance to visit Antique Malls these days although I did a lot of this in my past. I happened to have a business call with an account in the area and had never ever been in this huge Antique Mall. It looked big and I had a few minutes to kill after the call so I went inside and found the Feller pinback in the second glass case that I looked at. It was marked $44. When I went to check out the cashier let me know it was on sale for 25% off. Sweet!

Antique malls are definately hit and miss, but I've managed to pull a few great pickups out of them through the years.....

Thanks for your props!
Scott

Was lucky to pick up this extremely rare Winchester Kren's Special Hans Lobert bat. Kren bats were only offered for one year - 1923 - in the Winchester Repeating Arms Co. catalog. This is one of six models that was offered that year. I have seen a couple of Ruth models, but never a Lobert model. Very happy to add it to my Kren collection.

.

. . . had to wait an extra week or two to receive this team signed ball, on account of the seller shipped it to the wrong person. But after a flurry (I'm in Michigan, after all) of emails, this ball is now happily in my hands.

Nothing special about the 1944 team, other than it's a war-time era signed ball, and that the ball it is still quite white in color (which I don't encounter too often for this period). I don't generally collect team signed baseballs of this era, on account of the signatures often appear much bolder in the listings than they actually are (IMHO). But for the right price, I'll bite. The price was right on this one, and will be a much appreciated addition to my collection.

I haven't posted a pickup in awhile but this beauty arrived today. It looks nice in my office at work. The sharpness and detail is great in person. Thanks to Steve for the deal on it.

Jarrod - sounds like you just got it and put it right up on display. Can't blame you with that great shot, especially with my favorite Dodger in the front of the line!

I've not yet obtained a slabbed photo myself in part because I've always wondered how to display them while avoiding the garish (to my thinking) TPA info. Out of curiosity, what, if anything do you do to hide the labeling info? (I assume it was relatively simple since you displayed it so quickly!)

Thanks, jt39! It's propped up in the corner of my top shelf with the PSA label hidden behind a signed photo of Stan Musial in a frame. Not a perfect solution, and I may unslab it and get a real frame for it in the future. The PSA slabs are basically a toploader that's sealed. I like to buy photos slabbed as I know I'm getting a true Type I (hopefully!) but on those I'm sure I won't resell, I don't mind busting them out for display purposes. I will usually keep the PSA or Beckett label though and tape it to the back of the frame.

I'm waiting for a client to come in and say something about it. I'd be thrilled if they recognized Furillo or Hodges especially.

Ah, the simplest solutions are always the most elegant. This reasoning will revolutionize my constant struggle to justify memorabilia purchases to my wife -- "no, honey, this Stan Musial signed photo isn't yet another item, it is a part of my display for the Brooklyn Dodgers photo I just got!"

Let's just hope that the Musial isn't slabbed as well!

Well don't look for it to be back on the market anytime soon! ;)

Thanks King, it's one of my favorites already.

I've not tried it myself, but my understanding is the intent of the thin PSA photo "slabs" was that they were thin enough that they could be framed. My thinking would be to cut a piece of mat board with a hole just large enough to accept the holder without shifting around, then cut another mat to lay on top with an opening to frame in the portion of the photo to be displayed. The top mat would have to make a wide border to hide the edges of the slab and label, and the frame would have to be sized several inches larger than the photo itself, but that should work. The Beckett slabs would be a bit more difficult, and to my thinking would always have a "shadow box" kind of feel due to the way the photo sits in the slab.
