Hey all,

What did you finish in 2011? Sets? Type run? Back run? Research? etc.

I got close on a couple sets this year (T207 and M116) but not quite there.

Collecting goals for next year?

2011 was my first year for collecting pre-war cards. As the year progressed I developed a modest goal of picking up a pre-war HOFer at a one per month average for less than 20 bucks average. I am pleased with how the year has gone. Net54 has been a lot of fun and a huge education for me.

I plan on keeping my one per month goal for pre-war in 2012, and possibly working on a Redman and/or Auravision set as well.

Got closer in my E121 1921 world series set. Still a work in progress. Also upgraded a few cards in the collection. Goals, work on the E121-80 part of the set.

Completed a 1933-1989 HOF low grade rookie card collection excluding Satchel Paige because they are too rare and expensive. And any others that were not rookie cards of actual rookie players, like 1948 Ralph Kiner, Stan Musial as an example.

Completed HOF T205 collection low grade

Started working on my N162 HOF collection low grade got Dan Brouthers and Cap Anson still need King Kelly and Keefe. But for now too broke :(

For 2012, if I can, try finishing my N162 HOF collection, but may end up not collecting for 2012 and catch up on the bills I racked up this year:o

I finished deciding what I was going to collect :D

After two reboots in the last 18 months, I decided to go for an SGC 40 T206 set (minus big four). For 2012 I hope to get to the 50% mark.

I was hoping to get to 75% on my go at the T206 "set" this year. I am a card or two away from 80% which I am pretty happy about. I'm doing it in SGC 40-50 primarily and have about 15 cards I need to upgrade to at least 40. I would like to get to 95% or so in 2012. I find T207 very intriguing and would like to pick up a few of those here and there in the meanwhile. May everybody meet their collecting goals in 2012!

Happy Holidays!

I didn't finish anything this year, but I added a few cards to my T210 Houston team set

My goal for this year is to finish the Houston set (Need Burch and Hornsby), add to my T210 Orange Border set, and pick up at least one really cool card like a E101 Cobb or a E90-1 Speaker or something like that.

I took several months off from collecting and only managed to finish the 1967 Topps All Star Rookie cards from that set.

In 2012 I would like to complete the 1967 Topps Football set, I have five cards to go.

I would also like to collect and complete the 1961 Topps Baseball All Star Rookies from that set as well as continue to collect any Topps Ron Santo and Billy Williams cards from 1961 -1970.

Finally finished the t200 set with the addition of the elusive Boston Nationals.

A couple cards away from e95 and e96. About 150 commons away from t206.

Hoping for a successful 2012.

I'm pretty sure I can find a '38 Goudey Dimaggio #250 in VG condition this coming year to complete my set, and I need 5 to finish my e95 set. I only need about 8 to finish my '41 Play Ball set, but I've lost interest in that set for now.....and maybe forever?

I'm going to focus more on two specific 'tough' sets in the coming years..... e100 and t222. I know, you don't have to tell me.....I have plenty of patience and seem to have pretty good luck. I'll need them both.

Otherwise, I'm going to continue 'thinning out the herd' in both cards and memorabilia and focus more on quality instead of quantity.

Maybe I'm having somewhat of a mid-life crisis in baseball collectibles, but some of the 'stuff' I used to love is just boring to me now.

I finished the Topps 1960 tattoos and 1964 tatoos this year. I'm hoping to complete my 1951 red back panels set, and the 1961 and 1962 stamp panel sets in 2012. I think the 1956 pins, and the 1968 stickers are also within reach.

Also, hoping to get closer to completion of the M128 Police Gazette supplements set, and maybe finish the M101-2 TSN supplements set. If I get lucky, I'll find another m101-8 for that set. Adding some 1958 Dodgers scored programs / scorecards would be nice, along with any other cool scorecards that pop up.

There are still 15 Tip Top Weekly issues with baseball covers that I know I'm missing, and that doesn't include any that I find among the 192 covers that are still unknown (to me).

And of course there is the never ending quest for the m113 & m114 baseball magazine supplements.

And, and, and...

Doug

I finished deciding what I was going to collect :D

After two reboots.....

Same here.

My focus has shifted to a set that the voices in my head have been telling me to go back to since I stopped working on it three years ago. In 2012, I am going to work on the T210 set. For the time being, I am going to go after one card per team.

In 2011 I finally completed my 1941 Goudey Master set. All 33 cards in all 4 colors. I also reached 500/524 on the T206 set in PSA 3+.

In 2012 I would like to get to pick up one new T206 card per month and reach 512/524. This should be only limited by my financial willingness to spend. I also had enough extra 1941 Goudeys that a second master set is only a dozen cards away. This will be much, much tougher to get done in 2012. I'd also like to put together T205 and T207 Brooklyn sets but fear a couple of the cards will have to wait.

In 2011 I finished the 1961 Topps BB set that my dad and I started several years ago - and he's still around to see it to completion. I also finished a 1970T FB set.

For 2012, I'd like to finish the 1975T FB set I'm working on (no toughies here, just haven't done it yet), continue working on my 1978T BB autographed set, and collect as many pre-war 'Jordan' cards as I can - four down, ?? to go.

one thing completed in 2011 was an accounting of all my type cards on
plaques with type designation (T,E,R,etc.),year of card,company, name of player. It took three plaques with lots of engraving but it's done, thankfully;
the same was also done for my packs, pouches, tins. Well over 200 different entries for these two tasks. Ishould also add that all my type cards and packs, pouches, tins are framed and on display at my office. Obviously, at times, several are framed together but often i've limited the frame to simply one card or pack. My framer is quite happy.
as a type collector 1900-39, i'm hoping to complete the R's soon in 2012 since i lack four at this point.
happy holidays and happy new year, everyone.
best,

...chasing every known (and unknown) signed T206 card in existence.

Since this chase now has long droughts, I have just started picking up colorful strip cards. I got inspired -- isn't it great when that happens!? -- at a card show when a dealer sold me over 30 strip cards in a group for $112, including a Ruth and a Cobb.

This year, with the help of a top notch board member, I ended a 6, almost 7, year hunt for a T206 Gibson with a Hindu back. It took until last year to even see visual proof that the card existed, and then a few months ago, lightning struck.

I haven't taken delivery of this card yet, but once I do, I fully expect that I will lose any recollection that my original intentions for 2012 were to be basically inactive. Instead, I will set the Hindu next to the EPDG Gibson I have [only T206 holdover from my Gibson collection], and see nothing but 8 holes that need filling.

And so, for 2012 I'll set the modest goal of simply adding 1 or 2 T206 Gibsons back to my collection, in casual pursuit of a complete Gibson back run.

Thanks all, for sharing your progress and visions.

Best of luck in 2012 to all!

Well done on the Goudey master!

Best of luck for 2012! On the plus side, the T207 Brooklyn subset is by no means one of the hardest team sets - except for one or two semi-tough Recruits, they're straightforward. They've all been on eBay this month - most of the 12 still are.

This year I continued the hunt for the Monster. I have close to 200 cards so far. I picked up a lot of HOFers and got good deals on graded commons at a number of shows. My set is lower grade, so the cost was rather reasonable.

I did acquire a number of "iconic" cards that I have wanted for some time: three Goudey Gehrigs, a Wagner (not T206!) two non-T-206 Planks, a '53 Mantle (just love the look of that card), and a few other random HOFers in different sets.

This year I will continue to focus on hunting the Monster and working on a 1934 Goudey set, which I am about 16 cards in.

Silly me - I should have known better. That's what happens when Autofilter is on in your spreadsheet and you're under cold medication! Yes, definitely to Ragan, but O. Miller, maybe not so much. Higgins is probably as tough.

The only thing I completely finished is a 52 bowman set.

I got within 2 of 518 t206's. Within 2 of t205 hofer subset. Within 5 of e120 hofer subset. Within 5 of 33 goudey hofer subset.

In 2012 I hope to finish 518 t206's, t205 hofers, get within 1 on the e120's, and pick up another 33 goudey Ruth if one falls into my price range. I'll be on the look out for a Demmitt and Ohara PB and will pick one up if the stars align.

Also venturing down the path of pre-war type cards. Still in the wandering around phase on that.

Everyone have a great Holiday Season!

I have three collections that I am currently putting together:

T206's, T201's, and a Mantle type run from '51-69.

I first started collecting vintage in 2011 when I purchased a T206 Steamer Flanagan for a good price on New Year's day. I am currently 20% complete on the T206's, only 11% complete on the T201's and I have a decent stash of Mantles, but am still missing the '51, 52 and '53 among a few others. I am also collecting the oddities of Mantle during those years as well.

As for 2012, I hope to pick up a few more Mantles, add to my T206 and T201 set (don't really have a percentage or number of additions, but just want to continue to add as I see fit).

Happy collecting everyone and have a great holiday season!

Finished the 41 Double Play (need to do the same with the blog).

I think I can finish the base set of T206s in 2012...May wait on Ohara, Demmett variations...then the upgrading can begin (and it will be a lifetime chore).

I hope to complete and begin marketing a new product for low grade t card collectors.

And I hope to start a 1961 Topps set.

I didn't really have a goal entering 2011, but I did reach a small milestone....I reached (and surpassed) the 50% mark on my T206 SGC50+ set. I am now at 281.

I have two wall display cases for my T206 that each hold 50 graded cards. My goal for 2012 is to finish the first 100 (alphabetical) cards for T206 and display them in these cases. Right now I need 11 of the first 100. This will be a little tough in that the first 100 alphabetically have a lot of HOFers and some tough SLers. The first 100 feature (3) Mordecai Brown, (4) Frank Chance, (1) Chesbro, (2) Fred Clarke, (1) Eddie Collins, and most of all (4) Ty Cobb.

So, in 2012 I would like to get all 4 Ty Cobbs in SGC50......that will cost a pretty penny. Probably $5K - $6K.

Finished the T200 set this year, also getting the elusive Boston Nationals card on ebay on a BIN. It looked like an SGC 50 but came back Authentic. Nice card and the seller wouldn't negotiate on the card being authentic. Sigh...But, it's so tough that I bit my tongue and went on.
Zeroing in on the C46s (need 3), Domino Disc and P2 Sweet Caporal sets while I patiently wait for the last few E94s for my master set. I only added one color variation the past year, very disappointing.
Finished the 1911 Zeenut set (minus the impossible Bohen card).
Other than that, it was an upgrading kind of year, but I am holding out hope that I can finish the 3 sets I am close on this year and get closer to completing the T210 set in the next decade :o

In this previous thread on what would make your 2011 year (Link (http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=131472)), I said I was hoping to pick up an e103 Wagner or T206 Magie. I got neither of them. However, I did pick up a lot of nice cards especially for my Ruth and Gehrig collections. I also continued to upgrade my 33 Goudey set. I think for 2012, I'll continue to work on these sets, likely at a much slower pace. I'm still trying for a Big Head Ruth card, but I missed 3 this past year, so can't really be sure how many will surface for sale again in 2012.

Got down to 1 1911 Zeenut to go from 4, Pfyl, if anyone has an extra lying around. Have my want list for 1912 Zeenuts down to 49 (from 72 a year ago), need 3 1933 sepia Zeenuts down from 5 a year ago, still need Bordagay, Chosen & Strange. Some progress on a second (SGC) Ramly set up to 75% from 50%. Also nearly knocked of the sixties - not a great thing, but not bad when you consider the alternative. Happy new collecting year to all.

This year as a researcher had highs and lows... My highs I have already celebrated on the board, but my lows....

Apparently SABR does not ask for volunteers! In 2011 I compiled a comprehensive history of the Yakima-Kittitas (Central Washington) Semi-Pro Baseball League (1920-31) including ball fields, records, league champions, team & individual batting averages. However, if I do not pay SABR $X per month or year, they are not interested in the information. My goodness, I would gladly GIVE them the statistics without reservation. It seems they are not interested in the minor league statistics of such players as Roy Johnson 1922-24 (brother of Indian Bob Johnson), Hunky Shaw (1921-31), Lester "Stump" Ferguson (1920 - 25), Leo Fitterer (1926 - 27), and Jimmy Claxton (1926-31).

Anyone at SABR, if you are interested in the info. Contact me via PM.

I was able to finish my website after about three years of design and adding pages and info. Now I have to keep adding items which will be the fun part. This year I also added to my collection of 30s and 40s autographs and 1930s cards! My collecting goals for 2012 are early scorecards and T204

Happy Holidays

I mainly focused on my T206 set, closing the gap to 58 cards needed.

I nearly completed my W512 baseball subjects set (need Everett Scott - White Sox).

I also picked up some random Old Judges, T210s and 34 Goudeys throughout 2011.

For 2012, I want to complete my W512 set and perhaps significally close the gap on my T206 set (sans big 4).

Didn't really complete anything for 2011 as I just got back into collecting.

For 2012, though, I'd like to finish my 1947 Jackie Robinson Bond Bread set, as well as pick up a few key HOF Rookies (Ted Williams, Whitey Ford), etc.

I try to get all the Yankees i can, and love to have ALL Yankees from as many old sets as i can. This month i got the last Play Ball Yankee i needed to have ALL the Yankees from all three Play Ball sets, 1939, 1940, and 1941. The card i got to complete my Yankee run was the 1940 Joe DiMaggio, see below:

Very Impressive Everyone! I'm in awe of everyone on the board's set collecting this year. It was really cool to read about the wide variety of cards in which our community collects! I can't believe how many of you are almost done with the "Monster"!

As for me, my main focus continues to be E98s. I have 100 out of the 120 for the Master Set. The problem for 2011 is that out of the 20 that I need, 6 of them are Cobbs, Wagners, and Youngs; so I know financially I wouldn't be able to complete this project even if they would come up for sale. I guess it is a good problem to have. I will have to branch out with my collecting since I'm at a point where the ones I need rarely come along for sale. Time to pick something new to work on!:D

Best wishes for a fantastic collecting New Year!

Tim,

You're right at the point that I reached when I gave up.

If you're patient, you can complete it as those cards will pop up. I documented most of the cards I needed for sale after I stopped. However, I understand very well the feeling of missing out on other cards and projects to collect one set.

I should've at least kept one set!

Good luck either way next year.

Finished buying any modern cards and started selling them for prewar cards. I'm with Tim on trying to put together the E98 set in all the colors, but have a much further way to go. Also, I started picking up some E94's within the past year. I'd like to get a set together, but also master set of Cobb/Wagner in all the colors. With the way E98/E94's have dried up, this will be a daunting task for years to come.

I am just continuing my never ending quest for the earliest image of every BB HOF'er.

+1 - - ditto, but I think my goal will simply be to pick up every card that Phil posts on the B/S/T so that I end up with all of his "sloppy seconds".

The close of 2011 has been extremely busy as my wife and I welcome our daughter (Brielle) into the world on December 5th and we closed on our house on December 14th. I would not advise anyone to do all that in the same month!!

In 2012, I plan on finishing my T201 set (10 away) and starting on the T200 Fatima set.

I also am slowly working on aquiring all the "HOF" or "star" Topps cards from 1952 to present to put into binders based upon the decade.

Well, as we close the book on 2012, I sit right at 95% done. I need 15 or so cards to get to 518, and then we shall see on the Polar Bear bros. I am down to needing to upgrade 8 cards to have all SGC 40 or better too. I did end up buying a few T207s, but I will probably end up dumping them. I think T207s will end up just too daunting. Been a great year working on the collection.

Best,

Andy
