From the 2004 Topps Tribute cut sig edition. Lloyd autos don't appear every day. Anybody have an insight as to the authenticity of this one? Who knows who Topps bought this auto from and somehow I don't trust them to have done their due diligence (and I used to work there!)

Shocking to think that Topps, renowned company that they are, would not do due diligence on something as rare as this.:confused::rolleyes:
Just look at the beauty that Topps created here:

I wouldn't go near that one.

Any particular reason why (setting aside any issues of price)? I can see that it was drawn more slowly than most signatures, but that is sometimes the case with older players, esp. negro leaguers. I don't have any exemplars of Lloyd's and only recall ever seeing one go up for sale (in an RR auction about 3 years ago; I saved a link but they have changed it-should have saved the photo itself).

Here's a Lloyd letter Lelands sold a few years back:

Thanks! That's a nice letter at a good price (too bad it ain't 2003).

Seeing that example, I have to agree with thetruthisoutthere. The cut that Topps used does not compare favorably on many counts.

I'll wonder again: Where did Topps purchase these cuts? The O'Rourke on ebay looks good to me. This one doesn't. I'd bet Topps doesn't even know where these were purchased anymore.

Here's a piece that R&R sold for $4300.00

No idea if this one is good or bad as I've never researched his graph.
