Everyone saw the Ty Cobb Tin that didn't sell last month on eBay. The reserve was $50,000. Well, it's going back up for auction in December with Memory Lane Auctions. I actually got to see it and handle it today. It's a beauty!

Would you pay 50K for it?

And there is one in the Legendary auction about to open also. Sort of strange having 2 of them being auctioned at the same time. I collect tobacco related stuff and I wouldn't pay 50k for one.....but that is just me. It will be interesting to see how these go....I am sticking to my 20k'ish estimates....however I have been wrong many times before :).

I agree, but who knows.

The one at Memory Lane is supposedly the best condition one that exists.

It might be touted as the best but I feel this one is nicer. I don't own one....

I decided to make my own tin for display.

One of these was featured on the show "Auction Kings." I believe it sold for under $5,000, but it was in pretty poor condition. A neat item, I had never seen one before.

I was scanning the channels and I saw that program "Auction Kings" and the only reason I watched it was because I just happened to see that Ty Cobb tin. It sold for $4300 but it was pretty trashed. If it was a card and in a graded holder it would be a "1".

would love to find a trashed one for $4300.

For the life of me I do not understand how someone could be so stingy with the selling price when THEY FOUND THE ITEM! IT'S FREE!

Chris, don't know if they were stingy, they probably put a reserve of $50K after being told thait its "worth" that.
Its not like they turned down the $49,500., it didn't meet the reserve.
And there were 5 bid retractions, so probably the $49,500 amount was driven up w/ no intent to reach the reserve.

JP told me he doesn't like Net54baseball because of the things people say about him and his company. He says it's my fault as I run the forum. He is certainly entitled to his opinion. I disagree with him wholeheartedly. I don't tell people what to say or not to say. He earns that himself. I don't see a contest giving more attention to him or his company happening. As for the tin. I would have thought 49k was a pretty darn good price for it. I personally think the consignor should have taken that money (understanding it didn't meet reserve but if someone legitimately bid that much then they should have wanted it at that price). If the consignor got 0% sellers fee and gets full hammer price then the tin will have to sell for 60k'ish (after juice) to net the 49k.

How could Leon be responsible for what people say on the forum? That makes absolutely no sense.
