A while back I picked up a poster-like thing that says "over the fence records" on it and has heads of hitting stat leaders in MLB history. It seems to be 1949ish. It is a Louisville Slugger ad, it looks like it would have been an in-store piece. (photo below)

I noticed another on on ebay recently and the seller listed it as a reproduction. Which got me wondering about if mine is a reproduction. Does anyone have any experience with these? What I have is extremely fragile, the paper quality is quite poor. I originally thought this confirms its age, but I suppose it is easy enough to print on poor, brownish paper.

The images are not clear & sharp---I'm sure it's a repro.

George,

I have a large collection of these store posters and I don't see anything that would tell me it is a repro. They were fairly common and were distributed to sporting goods stores for display. Most of mine were obtained from the Scott Gaynor auctions years ago.

These have been sold by numerous reputable dealers and respected auction houses (often in group lots). They have been touted as original in every instance I have seen... I do not believe these are re-prints.

That said, they are quite plentiful, bordering on common. I am sure there are some on ebay right now. I know there was a big warehouse find years ago, and the corresponding low prices probably lead many collectors to believe they are reproductions. The print quality isn't stellar either... probably adding to that belief. But they are authentic and of the time period, IMO.
