I am new to collecting autograph balls and would like to find a Ruth ball of low quality but with a legible signature and wanted know what all you guys think should be a good ballpark price I should look to pay.

What is the best price any if you have seen on a Ruth ball?

Depends on what you're looking for. Do you want it to be a single-signed Ruth ball or a team signed ball? Single-signed balls are usually higher priced, but team signed balls also include a Gehrig and others that can drive up the price some.

Single signed but does not have to be on sweet spot.

I would budget at least 3500 for an authenticated ball. Here's a nice example with a single bid on it for 6500:

I just recently purchased one off ebay, it wasnt certified I had to go off my own expertise and take a chance. I payed $3,000.00 for it which is about the lowest a true Ruth Signature will go for. My ball did pass PSA and had other writing in the hand of Ruth as well which was cool. Be careful though there are so many fakes out there its not worth paying less for something you hope is a good auto...DO your research on fake ruth balls and you wont get burned.

Scott, very good point. I have purchased many autographs on Ebay that were not authenticated simply because I am very knowledgeable with certain autographs, but for those that do not know autographs it is a minefield.
