Just picked up this full 1927 NY Times newspaper (rag edition...very high quality) that helps show the origins of the card image. The newspaper is actually huge but in this scan it's very small. The quarter and the card go together. :)
And an interesting excerpt from the article shows the crowd probably wasn't too pleased with Ruth's performance on the field.
Loving Cup for Ruth
The players footed it back to the plate, and a little bit later Mayor Walker, doubling in brass, stepped forward to hand Mr. Ruth a silver loving cup from friends. The famous cinema star was so overcome that he struck out twice and popped up another time. He retired in the sixth inning, explaining that he felt dizzy. He looked that way at the bat.
