Looks like a blatant shill on the ended item to me.

I guess my first question is why is it being sold again? Maybe the buyer reneged? Looks strange in that respect...

Buyer may have not paid. I sold 3 toys a few weeks ago on ebay, only one was paid for. While I was trying everything to get paid, I got a message from ebay stating that the user was no longer registered and the sale was canceled.

I listed them again and on the last day of bidding, some guy with one feedback placed about 10 5$ bids in a row. I thought he/she was going to ruin my auction.

Comforting to see that our space program is apparently being used to photograph individual baseball cards from low earth orbit.

There's a thread about halfway down the front page where the same seller relisted a trimmed T206 Johnson claiming winner did not pay. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.....

I've seen the same seller mentioned in a few threads.

I will say I bought some "high grade" '61 Topps baseball from him this weekend. I'll see how "high grade" they are when I get them.

This seems to be adding up to something rotten in the state of Denmark. I could see one person not paying....but two within such a short time period, on pre-war cards. I dunno.....I guess we will see how all of this pans out.

David, You will see some HIGH GRADE Trimming! Also the reason why he relisted it is because his shill bid was not outbid! What percentage of auction houses do you think Shill Bid? I think it is a very high percentage!

I remember I once said something to this affect and it turned out to be a board member that rarely used his ebay account making his bid percentage high. Just saying maybe it was a bad buyer.

Look at the percentage that the top 3 bidders of the 1st Gehrig auction bid with this seller. Didn't pay?? I am calling BS on that. This seller is a BLATANT SHILL!

I was the one that started the thread for the Walter Johnson right here. I provided the exchange he and I had as well to give people an idea of the type of seller we're dealing with.

This is not a coincidence. Not only does he sell trimmed cards and use adjectives to veil this, he also shills.

Here is the thread:

Even before that, since I noticed this guy a while ago, I started a thread a month ago on the Walter Johnson. This was before I realized what type of seller this guy was...

Yea it may be legit but multiple times plus low feedback bidders that bid with this seller a large percentage of the time plus the card sold for more than twice what it was worth with paper loss on front and writing on the back. Just seems a little interesting wouldn't you say?

I like how he listed them on 8-20-11, just minutes after they were "sold" at a high price. Check out the Koufax, Aaron, and others.

Wow....

If enough people report this, they have to take a look at it. That's as obvious as it gets, and that's only these past 2 weeks.

I have seen many of this guy's listings and I have no doubt there is something fishy going on, EX/EXMT cards worth $5 are selling for $20+, if it's too good to be true it is....definately shilling going on IMO

Unless I'm missing something, the Koufax and Aaron "re-lists" don't really appear to be re-lists; the cards in the scans for the auctions ended on the 27th are clearly different than the ones from the auctions that ended on the 20th. The auction descriptions are also slightly different. It's possible the seller had 2 high-grade copies of each card, and ran the auctions consecutively (at least that's what I would assume until seeing actual evidence to the contrary).

Something is definitely fishy... and I feel this guy needs to be reported

I've been watching him for a while, and he usually spreads his repeats out, as he did with the Walter Johnson. When he finally gets a price that's astronomically to his liking, then he moves on to his next victim.

I'm kind of new to the hobby, does Legendary shill?

I was suspicious but is it true?

I had a max bid on the York caramel set at 4750 and the bid was at 4500 and it was bid up to 4750 with 30seconds left.

I posted on the T202 Cobb earlier this month, and looked again at its bidding history. 3 bidders, including high bidder have 100% bidding activity with him. Two have minimal feedback but one had 177 feedbacks.. have those accounts been linked for a while?? Another two bidders have 66% and 68% percent with him. Gotta think they all had something to do with this twice wrinkled card selling for more than the last PSA 5 sold for!! and $500-$600 more than recently sold PSA 4s. I know none of this is new and all his auctions get way more than market, but I'd watched this one closely while it was active. Maybe some of these 60%-100% guys are just loyal buyers, but I have to think most or all have been bidding all his auctions up.

Yes, the Pope is Catholic. And Legendary engages in fraud. As did Mastro its predecessor company. And the principals of Mastro are under federal criminal investigation for their fraud.

Lots of shilling going on for sure- I am avoiding a number of auctions going right now for E120's that look very much like they are being bid up, imo. No proof but hard to bid on stuff when buyers with 8 feedback are placing over 100 bids on the same seller cards.

Hi Scott - Thanks for your observations re the E120s. I wasn't aware of this, as I am bidding on only the E120-Courtney card, as it is the only one I need to complete a Wash. Senators E120 subset. And, I note that this bidder with the 8 feedback (who has topped my bid) has been a registered eBay bidder for less than 30 days. I'll probably bid again on this Courtney card, but thanks to your warning, I'll be sure to restrain myself from going crazy on it.
Best,
Val

Now that you guys have me looking at bidders and histories and stuff oin ebay I am seeing some listed as "private listing - bidders' identities protected". What's up with that?

smtjoy
08-31-2011, 10:11 AM
Your welcome Val, good luck on it.

I avoid all the private bidders, imo a very good chance they are shillers from past experiences, it just lets them cover their tracks so you cant see what percent of their bids are with the seller.

I have a regular customer who is a private bidder.

He's a holdover from the old Ebay days and I don't think he's embraced sniping programs, no matter how many times I've told him about them. His reasoning to me for being a Private Bidder, is he's paranoid of other bidding competitors tracking his bids and bidding against him.

He's got 100% perfect feedback and he always pays within hours of winning auctions. He's just a bit particular about certain things I guess.

Also, you can check bid percentages on private bidders just as you can on any other bidders. At least I was able to when I tried it.

Another trimmed T206 that he claims "is possibly trimmed"

Yes, the E120 bidding pattern is pretty disturbing in terms of potential shilling. A bidder with a new eBay id, who has 11 total feedback, has 229 total bids on 125 items, 98% of which are with the seller of the E120s? I guess he must really want to get into the E120s in a big way. Could be coincidence I guess, but it definitely falls into the category of things that make you go hmmmm. . . . .

Yes Kenny, just too many red flags for me and falls into the category of things that make me go "I will pass on bidding"

On the private ID, I also have someone who is a good buyer that is too but more times than not they are just a cover for a shiller, in any case for me its a red flag and something I look out for.
