While at the National, I stumbled upon a booth sponsored by ACE autograph certification. I understand that PSA and JSA, are the two big companies, but ACE was really affordable. Has anyone ever used them? If so, how was your experience? Reputable?

Any info. helps! Thanks

At least it is nice that the letter says Babe Ruth signed it in front of ACE staff.

Take a look, some pretty interesting stuff... But why would the collector of such memorabilia choose a local auction house in podunk connecticut if they could maximize their profits with a well known well marketed Auction house>>>

I would agree with your assessment and I have usually disagreed with the ACE authentications I have seen online.

I have invited Justin Priddy to come to the memorabilia forum to discuss his opinions on a couple of items and he just ignores it. He's a fraud..right up there with Chris Morales and Ted Taylor.

I too would love to see Justin reply to some questions and answer Dan's invite.
I believe many people in the hobby who have been questioned on this board do read this board.
I believe they are aware of the accusations hurled against them.
Answering them would be the thing to do.
No guts, no glory.

My wife for the first time ever bought me something related to my collecting hobby. So I can't say anything to her but it was a hockey stick autographed by Jordan Stall. Unfortunately it was authenticated by ACE and Mr. Priddy.

Does this guarantee that it is fake?

Being a competent judge of what's real and what's not is one thing. Consistently giving an honest opinion when it's more financially beneficial to just tell someone what they wanna hear is another. It's comes down to ethics.

All those Silver Certificates being defiled, isn't that a crime in and of itself? Shame either way. Why cant they just forge slips of old paper, why go for the Silver Certs?

It's because those silver certificates have the 1935 date. That helps with the scam.

This seems to be the new scam...send the forged autos to ACE and then place the items in small local auctions. I wonder what Frank Prisco did with all his ACE crap?

I just got back from the Houston tristar show and ACE had a booth, I'm not even sure what to think, I wanted to tell people to run away from them.

smtjoy,

What you should do is find an autograph online that you think you can reproduce. Then, get a piece of paper, copy that autograph and take it back to the show and see what they think.

PS to add,

Even better would be if you could videotape yourself forging the autograph and then videotape what the ACE representative has to say about it.

Oh, and I forgot to add that I collect autographs and wouldn't touch anything with an ACE cert. It is worse than no cert in my view.

Thank you for sharing the link of your collection!
Extremely impressive, and I must say that I am extremely envious!

Here are photos of that junk.

The seller writes in his auction description "I recently became the owner of several rare autographs obtained through the estate of a prominent Milwaukee attorney who was an avid baseball memorabilia collector."

And this disclaimer at the top of the auction really instills confidence in this auction house. Shill much? Sheesh!

If shill bidding is illegal it's illegal.

David that is not considered shill bidding. It is looked at as the house bidding on behalf of a reserve. If you remember many years ago at auctions the auctioneer would say "the book is at $50 now I am asking for $60". They would write all reserves in a book and bid on behalf of the book. This is the same thing. Technically that is how it works, but you are right if you bid on behalf of the seller you are skating on paper thin ice. My point is not really to disagree with you except that once disclosed it is not illegal.

If they have visibility to a max bid of say, $100. The "book" or reserve - whatever you call it - is $60 and they bid it up to $100. That is more than bidding against a reserve.

You are right Jeff it can be used incorrectly. I also sell on proxibid and have chosen to not be able to see high bids nor bid on behalf of a seller. I think it makes people more comfortable when they bid and I think you will profit more in the long run.

I would put Ace right up there with the old PRO grading company and their GEM MINT cards that were trimmed. I would never buy anything certified by ACE.
