I'm curious what everyone thinks of an item that has been signed twice by the same player. Do you pay a premium or value it about the same as a single-signed item?

Here is a link to Rogers Hornsby double-auto that got me thinking about this.

Personally, I always value an item like this same as a single-signed item. I may be in the minority here, but the piece doesn't feature two "useful" signatures; i.e., each in a spot where the piece could contain two signatures that could be split. It's neat to have two signatures on one piece, but I wouldn't pay a premium for it. I once had a Cy Young signed postcard which was signed and dated on both sides. It was a cool piece, but I don't think it was worth the price of two Cy signatures.

I agree with John on both counts. Value may be a little more , due to the novelty of the double sig, but you couldn't "break em up" if resold. Cool factor is WAY up there tho. GREAT PIECE!

Unless the reason for the second signature is that the first one was botched (pen skipped, ran out of ink, smeared, etc). I've seen a number of signed items where something went wrong with the signature on the front of an item (usually a photo or postcard with a slick or glossy front image) and the player flipped it over and signed again on the back. Or even worse, re-signed over the top of the original signature with a different (working) pen or marker. In those cases, I would actually rather have JUST the signature on the back. When you get items signed through the mail though, beggars can't be choosers :D

...but I do wish the back was a little bit cleaner...
