David's post about famous non-Rookie cards got me thinking. What is the one card that was never made that you wish you could have?
'52 Topps Satchel Paige?
'54 Topps Mantle?

I think I would have to go with a '57 Topps Harmon Killebrew. Here is a mock-up of what one could've looked like:

What would yours be?

Well, in a way the '54 Topps Mantle was made. At least as part of the 2nd issue of Sports Illustrated. I would personally like to pick up both the full issue with the sheet, but also wouldn't mind a cut-out single of the Mantle too, if I can find a legit one...

As far as cards that were never made, I would've loved to have seen a Musial in just about any Topps set. A '52 Topps Joe Dimaggio would've been awesome. And of course I'm gonna go the rookie card route too. A '51 Red or Blue back of Mantle and Mays would've been nice to see as well. Possibly even a '48 Bowman of Jackie Robinson or Larry Doby. I'm honestly surprised that Jackie wasn't in the '48 Bowman.

I agree with both of you guys. A 57 Killebrew and any Topps Musial card
from 52 to 58 would be great to see. My number one dream would be a 1957 or 58 Musial/Ted Williams combo card named something like "Pitcher's Nightmare". Also a Mantle,Mays and Snider together maybe called "The Center of New York" would be a dream card.

Here's a few of my missing cards.....1952 Topps Satchel Paige......1952 Topps Ted Williams......1955 Topps Roger Maris......1966 Topps Steve Carlton.....1967 Topps Warren Spahn. I am a bit partial to the Tulsa Oilers.

Since I am working on the '54 set, I have to go with the '54 Mantle. How sweet would that have been?

Now, after thinking about this for a bit. Nolan Ryan instead of Bill Denehy on the 1967 Topps card with Seaver.

Here are a couple of mock Exhibit cards I made up:

1921 style Buck Weaver.

http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibitman/interestingexhibitcards/websize/Weaver%20Exhibit.png

1927 style Mickey Cohen. Prior to beginning his "career" as head of organized crime in Los Angeles, Mickey Cohen was a middling quality professional boxer, fighting as a bantamweight and featherweight. He doesn't have an Exhibit card. His record was 60 wins, 25 defeats, 6 draws and 11 no decisions. He fought two world champions, getting knocked out each time.

A few that immediately come to mind..

1953 Topps Duke Snider
1954 Topps Mickey Mantle
1955 Topps Pee Wee Reese
1956 Topps Stan Musial

I like the idea of a Duke/Mickey/Mays card, too. The other day I was thinking it'd have been cool if Mays was issued in the '54 Red Heart set.

Regards,

Richard.

If Lefty'd had a second PC back Exhibit it might have looked like this.

Some Banned In The USA specials:

Benny Kauff Exhibit card. Known as the "Ty Cobb of the Federal League", Kauff led the league in hitting both years it operated. He was later banned from baseball by Judge Landis for organized crime ties through his brother.

Being a Roy Campanella collector I would have loved to see 1954 and 1955 Topps cards of him. A 1958 Topps card would have been nice as well.

1953 Bowman color Satchel Paige. What a card.

A 1951 Bowman of Joe Dimaggio, snagging a fly ball in center field. A 1950 Bowman portrait of him wouldn't be a bad thing either.

Topps is doing these via eTopps....

The '82 Sandberg in a Phillies uniform is kinda interesting. Still, would I buy these? Probably not..

I don't have a scan at the moment but I own a '67 Koufax that I love...

And just for the record, I do own a Topps 1954 Mantle...they were made...just a bit different than the normal cards from that year.
