First - Let me introduce myself. My name is Peter Lofano and I am a retired war vet / mechanic (28 years). My father bought me my first pack of wax baseball in the late 60's and I've been hooked ever since. Now my son who is currently stationed in Iraq collects the new cards but I stick with the true works of art.

My #1 all time favorite set is the Topps 1956 and my set is nearly complete, I am missing a few key players. Most of the grades are PSA 8 and 8.5 and it has taken me years to get to this point.

I was looking @ this 56 Mantle PSA 8.5 and it looks very nice. The seller provides nice clear scans front and back. Unfortunately I cannot afford to make an offer on this kind of card right now but I was wondering what do you guys think it will sell for? I know the saying is whatever someone is willing to pay that is the sale price but I am just wondering a price range.

A SGC 9 just went for almost $9,000 on eBay and I've seen nicely centered PSA 8's go for $2750-$3,250.

So PSA 8.5 should be around $4500-$6,000? In the middle of the PSA 9 and 8 price.. Does anyone know the PSA 8.5 Mantle 1956 population?

Thank you for the welcome to the forum and let the good times roll!

Best comparison is a PSA 8.5 which sold in May through REA for $4400.

The exact card listed sold on eBay in January 2009 for $4300, so that should give you a fairly good ballpark for what to expect the card to go for....

Thank you Scott!

By any chance do you have the link to the REA listing?

I agree, the '56 set is beautiful. Maybe my favorite set of the 50's. I think that will be my next set to build....although I will stick to PSA 7's.

Good luck finishing the set and getting that beautiful 56 Mantle.
