I have only recently begun picking up photos...in many cases I'm not even sure what draws me to them, but they are unlike any of the other things I collect. I am solidly a "black and white" guy, though...no interest in color photos...even of more modern players...anyway, here ya go...

An Old Timer's Game photo from Braves Field in 1930...
Casey Stengel tying Zack Wheat's shoe laces before an Old Timer's Game in the early 1960's...
and a recent pickup from Graig Kreindler of Tom Henrich after hitting a game-winning home run in the 1949 World Series...I believe my dad was at this game, too.

It was really hard limiting my choices to three photos, so here are four of my fav photos:

1) Bob Feller speed test 8/20/46 at Washington Senators- Type I photo. You gotta love the speed "contraption" device!!

2) Johnny Vander Meer high kick Type I photo taken prior to his first of two consecutive no-hitters in 1938.

3) A 9 1/2" x 14" Type I photo taken of Nolan Ryan during game 3 of the 1969 World Series. This was Ryan's only trip to the World Series in his great 27 year career, and this is the one of two action images that I have ever seen to this game. I love the World Series bunting in the background at Shea!

4) An original 3" x 3" snapshot of fresh-faced Mets rookie Nolan Ryan taken out in front of Shea Stadium in 1968. The photo was also signed in vintage ball point pen circa 1968. I bought this great snapshot from net54's own Jimmy (The King of Clout). Thanks again, Jimmy!! This still remains one of my favorite early images of Nolan.

1. Tommy Bridges on the 1924 Gordonsville High School Baseball team. I graduated from Gordonsville 77 years later. A relative on my mother's side, Charlie Gwaltney, is 3rd from the left on the bottom row with the catcher's mitt.

2. Tommy Bridges and Daffy Dean shortly before game one of the 1934 World Series. They would face each other in game three. A 4-1 St. Louis win.

3. 1929 Portrait of Tommy Bridges as a member of the Evansville Hubs.

This has the makings of a great thread. Some terrific photos so far. Here's my faves . . .

#1: 1930 Old Timers Game at Boston.
Similar to Matt's. Just won it the other week. There is a ton of baseball history in this photo; you can stare at it for hours.

#2: Team photo of the 1928 San Francisco Seals printed from original glass negative. Some talented ballplayers in this crew.

#3: Harry M. Stevens outfield panorama of Yankee Stadium in 1939. It didn't look much different, except for the scoreboard, when I was a kid twenty years later, and is still one of the most beautiful vistas ever beheld by these eyeballs.

Honorable Mention:

Babe and Kids, 1923

Dwight Eisenhower at Abilene High School, Kansas. He's the first person circled on the left. The other is his brother. Next is the Joe Wood photo used in Glory of Their Times. He's in the dark jersey, lower right. The last is the earliest Kansas image I own or know of.

Joe,
Do you know the occasion of the third photo you posted? As I believe that is Tommy Bridges to the immediate right of Cobb.

Great photos! I love this part of the hobby. I don't have very many myself. Those that I do have I purchased more for the visual appeal of the image rather than the subject. It is hard to limit myself to three. It is like asking me to pick between my children. So forgive me for breaking the rules by posting four one for each of my aforementioned children. Does anyone know when the next Henry Yee auction is?

Hey Scott,

I'm not sure if I'm 100% correct on this, but I'm pretty sure the Waner snapshot is from '33.

Woot!

Here are my three. Bob Feller fishing in 1939 at Delray Beach Florida. Bob Feller listening to Steve O'Neill in March of 1937. I love the Tribe in pinstripes and my Great Grandfather and Joe Louis. He used to spar with him for extra money. I love the ascot on Joe.

Would love to see the kingofclout's fav's. Seems like Jimmy has been absent from the board for awhile. I think someone even started a thread on the main board about where he is. Anyway, my 3 favorite and I guess it has a Harry Hooper theme :)

1. 1919 Hooper Spring traning photo
2. 1962 with Hooper, Yaz and Duffy. I love this photo of the the old, old guard and the new young gun
3. Hoop scoring the winning run of game 3 of the 1915 WS

Michael: Ditto on Jimmy C. The memorabilia side ain't the same without him.
I'm guessing that your photos were scanned at some funky resolution but I quite like the one of Hooper scoring. It has a dreamy black-and-white Kreindleresque quality.

That's simply an incredible photo. Do you have any identity on the player and team?

Thanks David. Yeah, having some scanner opportunities. The scan does not do the Hooper scoring pic justice. And what's with the avatar? Your a Nucks guy or Western Canada has reeled you in already :)

And nice Pennock Jeff. I love the sweater.

We aren't really collectors of photos the way many of you here on the forum are, but, from time to time, we run across some photographic images that we'd like to add to the collection...here are a few tin type examples.
