There is a little bit of vertical creasing on the front, you can't see it on the scan. When I get home tonite I'll take a pic and post it so you can see... But still, its a great card, probably the favorite of my collection.

Cool cards, Matt! I recall seeing that Johnson before, but I
don't remember the story behind it. Is that a blank-backed,
hand cut proof card which was given to Johnson?
Thanks for sharing the scans, and whatever info you might have.

Thanks Chuck! The T206 WaJo was his personal copy that he kept in a scrapbook he assembled before he was married. It's not clear how he acquired it - if the ATC gave it to him or if it was from a fan; the part of the back that is showing is blank, but much of it is covered with a newspaper clipping.

favorite cards:
Baseball: I tend to think of favorite baseball cards not in terms of rarity or value but in terms of where I was in life when I got them. I pulled the Aaron from a pack in 1976, have had the T206 Johnson since I was 12, and the Dropo is the first old card I got (probably got it when I was 10 or 11).
http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibitman/miscellaneouscards/websize/1976%20Aaron.jpghttp://photos.imageevent.com/exhibitman/miscellaneouscards/websize/1909-1911%20T206%20Johnson%20ready.jpghttp://photos.imageevent.com/exhibitman/miscellaneouscards/websize/1952%20Topps%20Dropo.jpg
Nonsports: Easiest to choose of all categories. I'd wanted a good Connery autograph for years before I got one, Shatner/Kirk 'nuf ced, and the Marx Bros are not only favorites but the card is from a rare theatrical set from 1926 and is the only example I've seen.
http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibitman/collectorshowcase/large/74998a.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibitman/collectorshowcase/large/Star%20Trek%20TOS%20Shatner.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibitman/interestingexhibitcards/websize/1926%20Exhibit%20Marx%20Bros.jpg
Boxing: One of my cousin, one of my favorite, one of "the greatest of all time"; the latter two are 1 of 1, as I've never seen another of either:

Here a few of my favorites :
It depends on what day I am asked, but these are my favorites today. The Lajoie is my favorite T206 pose and was one of my first two T206s that I got when I was 12 years old. The Cobb is an e93. I should probably post it on the big border thread too.

Congrats on landing that '21 Voskamps, Leon! It's the only one I know of. I remember being shell-shocked when I saw that one in person a couple years ago (since I only knew about the earlier Voskamps Coffee set prior to seeing that one). Great, great card!

I can't show my favorite because its locked up (E105 Mello-Mint Wagner)
but I can show these HOFers that I couldn't imagine parting with :
Like many others, it's very hard to pick just 3. So i picked 3 with the same image, for today's post. If the thread is still alive next week. I'll pick a different player.

This thread makes my head spin! I've scrolled through this one top-to-bottom at least 10 times and every time a different card catches my eye.
Out of my humble contribution, the top two never change. There is about a 10-way tie for the number three spot, but today I'll occupy that slot with the oldest card I own.

Sorry, had to go with FOUR! Vaughn is my favorite E98 pose.
Thanks everyone, all of these post display cards that are cherished by their owners. Each poster has a special interest that drives their collecting and should be applauded.
And yes Jim it is a SC 150, the bluest and best registered one I was ever able to find. It is even more impressive in person. As you well know all 150 series are much sharper registered and bolder colored than their 350 counterparts. I once had a known dealer doubt me on this until I picked about 20 in a row from the front only in a binder of T206's he had.
I would also like to show a couple of Walter Johnson cards and some Buck Weavers, but I'll hold off for a while.

This thread just keeps on delivering. Thanks, everyone, for posting your scans!
If anyone out there is feeling a little humbled or hesitant to post their 3 faves, please don't be. It's more than just the dollar amount or rarity of the cards you choose, it's all about your favorites and everyone else getting a glimpse into your collection.
Scott, regarding the cards you posted... not only are they iconic and legendary by themselves, but your Wagner & Plank have to be two of the best looking versions within their assigned grades. And the E107 Plank... even though a "3" is considered somewhat high grade for that set, that's a gorgeous VG 3! Just incredible!

Perhaps I should ask Hank, but why in the world was Walter not included in the W600 Sporting Life cabinet series?
There are a myriad of guys that only played a few games and Walter started way early enough to be included in the last 3 years of production.

Walter Johnson, Tris Speaker, Joe Jackson, Joe Wood, and Rube Marquard all started their major league career in either 1907 or 1908. They were not included in the SLC series. However only Johnson and Speaker became established regular players by 1910; the last year SL tried to revive their give-away cabinet card program by adding 57 new player names to the availability list. Johnson, Speaker and surely many other newer players were overlooked. We will never know how SL chose the players to be included in this series.
In researching the Sporting Life Publishing Company I contacted the Philadelphia Historical Society, the City Directories and the museums and libraries. Their only help was to furnish the Company's address changes through the years of its existence and the names and titles of the senior officers of the Company.
Some of the original content for my 2006 OC article was removed by the editor due to space limitations.

Do you still have the "unabridged" version of your article? I have all of the back issues from O.C. and have read that article more than once, but I'd love to read the rest of the article.

Jay, that 1890 Giants PL cabinet is cool on so many levels. Beyond the obvious importance of the team/league, the portrait layout is very interesting and a colored mount with cool graphics never hurts.
I also really like game-in-progress photos (like Tony's) and Gary's National Nine. Fantastic cards.
I'll bump this back to top with a few more, some of which I've already posted (sorry), but still among my favorites. An 1886 Tomlinson team photo, 1886 Game in Detroit, and an 1888 game on the road, Detroit vs Philly. The 1888 image is a modern photo developed from the original glass plate negative, not sure if an original photo exists.

Guys,
Thanks for the compliments..............
The Lajoie is my only M116 bought since I was too slow on pulling the trigger on a T206 Lajoie w/bat Piedmont 42 from a friend.
Mike......You know who the friend is...........

Just starting to collect but picked these up recently. Non pre-war but my father collected Topps 52 when he was 9 and passed an almost full set on to me recently. I like the Mantle ; )

Scott, that 1923-24 Exhibit Babe Ruth is going to make you a wealthy man some day, if you allow it to! But what sorrow upon parting with it:(:(:(:(

T206 with a President Taft Campaign Sticker "Meet us at Wilmington" dated nov 9th on the back... after some research you can see Nov 9th 1909 Taft visited Wilmington... This is prob my favorite one... the fact that it made it through all these years with an piece of American History is awesome...
