View Full Version : Net54baseball contest- Guess the T207 Red Cross group price

Leon

***Note new closing to guesses or edits. Lets have a contest and a bit of fun at the same time. This contest is to guess the final price of the (8) T207 Red Cross cards in the current REA auction. The final price for this game will be the total combined prices WITH the 17.5% buyers premium included. So hypothetically if all 8 ended at a combined price of $50,000 then we would add the BP in to get the final realized price of $58750. All guesses, and/or 1 edit only, have to be done by 8pm EST on ***5/6/11 (Friday, which is one day before the end of the auction). In case of a tie the first one with the answer will win. You can be high or low, it doesn't matter. Everyone except myself can guess. The winner will get this fairly nice Zeenut with coupon. I will be the final decision maker on any issues and my decision is final. We haven't ever had an issue and I doubt we will this time. Good luck to all who play. BTW, I think the chat room is fixed enough for us to use it on the ending night. Should be a lot of fun again!! Good luck to all who play.....

Please note the new closing time for guesses or edits.

Man,

That is probably one of the most unbelievable finds in the hobby. I had to hunt down a red cross T207 for literally around a decade before I added one to our collection.

To see 8 of these come out at once ... well since I can't really describe it I guess I'll just say I'm speechless.

My guess:
$85555.

I hear ya' Scott.....I picked up the Weaver about 7-9 yrs ago and it was only the 2nd I had ever seen for sale, the Blackburn being the other. The way they are going now I am not sure they will end up much less than the historical few prices attained. It will be interesting to see, hence the impetus for the game....

You mention eight cards in your contest description; but, there are actually 42 T207 Red Cross cards in the current REA auction -- 14 as single card lots and two group lots (one of 24 cards and one of four cards).

Which eight cards are you adding together for the contest or are you adding together all 16 lots?

Thanks for running the contest -- cool Zeenut card!

There are only 8 T207 Red Cross cards in the current REA auction. You are probably counting the T215 cards. The actual lot numbers that Leon are referring to are 96 and 105 through 111. :)

Just to remind everyone of the rules we have been done since last night. The last guesses will not count nor will any future ones. If you edit your guesses, or posts, they will not count either. Good luck to everyone that guessed before 8pm EST last night...Please don't edit your posts as the guess will be disqualified if you do...thanks again

from the rules:

All guesses, and/or 1 edit only, have to be done by 8pm EST on ***5/6/11 (Friday, which is one day before the end of the auction).

I picked up the Adams SGC 50 last night. Thought it was a great deal. When I looked at VCP, there was some bad data on there. The only true comparables I found were a Blackburne PSA 3 for $9400 and a Lange SGC 10 for $4652. The rest were Red Cycles listed as Red Crosses.

Bill, I noticed your relatively low guess last week and you were very close.

Leon
05-08-2011, 09:11 AM
I will figure out who was closest later as I am about to head out of town. While I would be happy if I were the consignor of the Red Crosses, whoever guided him to give all of them to one auction, that will run them all together at once, probably cost him a fair amount of money. No doubt, to me, it's better to spread out really rare type cards. But then again what do I know about type cards? :).

Sterling Sports Auctions
05-08-2011, 09:31 AM
Maybe they should have spread them out among the major auction houses over the a year period. Did you say the same thing about the 12 or 13 Ty Cobb with Cobb backs or anyone else that has one collection that they wanted to turn over.

Would such a comment be made if they were submitted to B & L?

Happy Mother's Day,

Lee

I am not sure that having 8 singles in one auction, for cards that will not be collected as a set, is the way to get the most for them. That is all I am saying. You are entitled to your opinion as well as every one else is to theirs.

I won't be back after this post until this evening. Maybe this would be a good thread subject to debate, in and of itself? Happy Collecting!!

barrysloate
05-08-2011, 09:45 AM
You can debate whether or not eight Red Cross cards should have been offered at one time. Fact is, they didn't do that well. The consignor was not a collector, and outside of the hobby, so this was likely the most practical way for him to go. If he were a collector, he probably would have taken a different route.

William Todd
05-08-2011, 10:20 AM
Ron, I was close on the Lowdermilk and Adams, knowing I would only end up with one at most. You did very well buying the Adams in my opinion. Its a beauty. Having them all in one auction helped those who wanted one.

Sweet pickup Ron and a great price! Nothing for me but again if anyone on here won Lot 119, T-207 Rarities (25) and can part with the Bushelman (SGC 20), I am a ready buyer (msteele_1959@msn.com).

I agree with Leon
Too many Red Cross backs in one auction suppressed the prices realized.
Same scenario last year with all the T208s that came out after being MIA for many years. The two Firesides that sold last night also seemed to suffer a hangover effect and sold cheaply particularly for how great looking they are.

gabrinus
05-08-2011, 07:15 PM
I heard from a reliable source that this past fall the seller turned down $100,000 for the whole thing. It appears all the cards in the collection----not just Red Cycles----went for $72,900. Still, not bad for someone who invested nothing in it.

Thanks for the kind words. It was surprising that the Red Cross T207's didn't go crazy after midnight. Barely any movement.

Craig, I felt the same way as you about the T208s so I grabbed one of them: The Cy Morgan SGC 40. I expected most of the T208's to sell for thousands more than they did. I saw that Wonka grabbed one, as well: the Dygert SGC 50. I'm working on a T-card type collection so really excited to get a nice example of a T208!

Ron,
Great pickup on the Morgan!
I think it was a steal. The card looks fantastic for the grade. I picked up a H. Davis last year so I decided to spend my money on something else; I was really tempted to add another Fireside at those prices!
