I've got a Philadelphia Eagles football helmet which is I believe from the 1970's which I am trying to determine if it would have actually been used in a game, or is just a very realistic souvenir helmet. It is full-size, and much more "heavy duty" than another (definitely souvenir) helmet that I have, but the thing that is throwing me is the imprint inside which says "Warning: This Is NOT A Protective Helmet" which seems like an odd thing for a real football helmet to state. Also, there is not any padding on the inside of the helmet. I probably should have prefaced all this by saying I have little experience with football memorabilia, and absolutely none with helmets before now. Any thoughts/guidance would be appreciated. Also not a helmet guy, but I had a Seahawks lid similar to your Eagles one and belive the stamping tells the tale - not a protective helmet. Also, I believe the outline on the inside is glue residue from some light weight foam padding that mine did have in it to make it fit for occasional (stands, Halloween etc.) wear.

As an aside, if you are interested in selling the 'Phins helmet, pls let me know.

Yeah, I agree, I think this is a replica helmet. Probably a more well made replica than some of the cheaper ones out there, but I don't think its a gamer.

Much better quality than todays souvenirs...

The quality is what made me second-guess my original assumption that it was a souvenir based on the inscription. This thing is seriously heavy duty for something only meant to sit on a shelf, and the 4 screws used to attach the facemask seemed unusual too. Thanks for the help, guys!
