The Great Trade Chain continues. Herzog was sent in the mail today to the first trade partner.

Keep a lookout for your next chance to get in the game. Here we are in front of the Iowa State Capitol Building (photo by my 9-year-old daughter).

OK, I am the lucky first trader of the great BIG ASS bucky. The pictures will explain his adventure thus far:

37210

Bucky arrived this Easter weekend and was treated to a rousing welcome by Yo Gabba Gabba (Don't ask)

37211

Bucky's trip started off hairy as Baby Sean tried to immediatly eat him

37212

Bucky then participated in an Easter egg hunt with my son maxwell (Bucky got a laffy taffy and a dragon sticker)

37213
Then it was on to Lincolns tomb (I wonder how big Bucky's tomb is?)

37214
Bucky rubbed Honest Abe's nose for good luck (i didn't as its a breeding ground for disease)

milkit1
04-23-2011, 07:34 PM
37215

Maxwell and Bucky share a poignant moment at the Korean War Memorial (Maxwell isnt saluting, he's actually hit breaking point on this whole "Take a picture with an old card" game)

37216
Maxwell and Bucky at the Illinois State Capital (I now know how Tiger Woods and Michael Jackson felt about their dads)

ok, Lets get some trading going. There is an offer for Bucky to go to SRI LANKA but its still a few weeks off so lets get a trade in between then. email me with what you got and make it good as Buckys value just skyrocketed! Its now worth ....something??

I wonder how plausible it is to get a photo of Bucky in front of all 50 state capitol buildings. I'd gladly take him on a tour of the Nebraska State Capitol.

Hello my friends,
I just wanted to express my happiness over this fun thread!
I look forward to spending my days trying to feel better by participating in our hobby via this wonderful site. I am completely into this thread!
I look forward to seeing all the fun places and things that Buck Herzog is/will be doing! My grand-daughter (as well as the rest of the family) loved seeing the Easter egg hunt and the welcome party with those figures that my lil' grand-daughter quickly told me what and who they were!

PLEASE keep this thread going! I, for one, am very into this fun thread!

You have really hit a winner with this thread!

Thanks to all,

Bill Hedin:eek:

The Herzog is my favorite card in the T206 set and I would be more than happy to give the "Large Ass" example a tour of the Virginia state capitol.

awesome, glad your enjoying it Bill! Bucky is on the way to Todd and then Im pretty sure Josh is bringing old bucky to Sri Lank which will officially make this the farthest traveled t206 EVER! The goal is get Bucky into orbit after that!
Also, Don't forget as George mentioned, there is a cool little book that comes with it for you to put in your information to be saved for posterity!

Sorry folks, tough decisions to be made. We are going to have to make a choice between Sri Lanka/Maldives or Ecuador/Galapagos. I leave on May 17th and won't be back for a few weeks . . . I'd love to take Buck to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, but I'll leave it up to the group. If only we had had this thread up when I was in India last year . . . so sad.

On a related note, I have been to the Galapagos and had an amazing time. There is some really great diving down there! I am going diving in the Maldives and with any luck I will be seeing this:

Bucky sent me a letter saying that eventually he wants to make it to the thriving metropolis of Lucas, TX. I can take him to the city hall and maybe even speak in front of the council with him in hand. Regardless, I would like him to make his way here to Lucas in the future. Just put me in line in for a future showing. regards

Mr. Herzog and I did some traveling today:

We visited:

The West Virginia State Capitol

http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee291/bbcard1/herzog/WVcap.jpg

The tribute to the West Virginia Miner

http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee291/bbcard1/herzog/miner.jpg

And Marshall University

http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee291/bbcard1/herzog/WAM.jpg

I figure he'll hang with me another week or so so I can show him around my hometown of Roanoke, VA....but he'll be looking for a new home soon.

I do advertising and marketing. One of my clients is the Salem Red Sox. IMO they play in one of the most beautiful minor league ballparks in America. I had a meeting and then Large Ass an I headed out to watch a little BP.

http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee291/bbcard1/herzog/photo3.jpg

One of the cool features of Lewis-Gale Field is a mini Fenway whiffleball park...I would love to see Leon and Ted Z square off in a home run derby.

http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee291/bbcard1/herzog/photo-1.jpg

SPECIAL OFFER TO NET 54 MEMBERS. If you get near Salem, VA and want to take in a game, just drop me a PM or email and i will send you four tickets.

Not a lot to report today...Mr. Herzog took in my son's high school baseball game. My son's team won 5-4 in the 7th. The most interesting part would be that they hit into a 6-4-3 TRIPLE play...not sure that isn't the first one i have ever seen live that wasn't of the rec-ball variety.

http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee291/bbcard1/herzog/photo-2.jpg

This weekend will probably be the last in Casa BBCARD1 as arrangements for travels of a more exotic variety are coming his way. But we'll get him to a couple more Roanoke Valley icons before he wings his way to his next home.

As it is the last weekend Buck will be visiting us, I stopped off for a couple of pictures on my way in to work a little...

The Mill Mountain Star is the iconic Roanoke "thing." Constructed in 1949, it is the world's largest freestanding illuminated star. I know an old guy who worked on the installation when he was a college student. The star is 88 feet tall. When illuminated at night, you can see it from pretty much all of the valley.

http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee291/bbcard1/herzog/star.jpg

Opposite the star is an overlook. The picture does not do it justice, but old Buck enjoyed the view.

http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee291/bbcard1/herzog/millmt.jpg

I was hoping to take Buck on a short hike on the AT, but it is not looking promising as he has to leave tomorrow. Tomorrow I will post some more personal pictures so you can see what his host family in Southwest Virginia looks like.

My hound dog Bo contemplates his large assedness. Bo is a Redbone, an unusual choice for a suburban home, but enjoys it.

Last night in VA, I asked Buck what he wanted to do and he said he'd like to play a ballgame. So I dusted off the old APBA game and played the 1911 Giants vs. the 1911 As. Buck went 1-4 with an RBI and Matty got the win 4-0.

I am happy to report that myself, my wife and of course, the Big Ass Buck had a wonderful time on our trip to The Maldives and Sri Lanka. During his time with us Buck communed with the Buddha, tried some traditional Sri Lankan cuisine (Chicken Cheese Kottu pictured in photo), spent some time on the beach, and in perhaps a first for any T206, went on a scuba dive in a makeshift "wet suit". I can't say that it was the most secure apparatus ever constructed, but after a few hours in the Maldivian sun he was as good as new. Sadly, now that our journey has come to an end it is time for him to move on . . . so shoot me an email (joshmargolin@gmail.com) if you want him and I'm sure we can work out a trade!

I see from the thread that there are several in the passive trade partner line.

But don't worry if you have to hold on to him for a bit while waiting for the offers to arrive. They'll come in eventually.

Who can resist the opportunity to be a part of an international phenomenon like this? Years from now, we fortunate few will look back on year one of LAH's travels and say, "My name is in the first log book." and tears will well up in our eyes and in the eyes of those who hear us. And then one of the less fortunate will say, "I took my turn recently, it was an indescribable experience. But, man, shipping is outrageous these days!"

Large Ass and I returned home to Saint Paul, MN this past saturday night. We're a little jet lagged...but had an incredible trip to Turkey. We had a connecting flight in Amsterdam so had the treat of an afternoon in one of my favorite cities...and apparently Buck's too!!!

We started the day with a live sex show...Buck had never seen one before...I think he liked it!
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i176/ullmandds/36a71137.jpg

I then told Buck about the red light district...and he was intrigued...he wanted to stop for a few provisions first!

We cruised the red light district...but none of the ladies piqued Buck's interest...so we had a cup of coffee!

If you send me large ass I could take a pic of him in front of NC's state capitol in Raleigh as I'm about 15 mins from there. I could also take a pic in front of the dean dome (UNC) and Cameron indoor (piss on Duke). I enjoy seeing the travels. Does he need a passport to travel overseas or do customs just feel bad for him and let him through security?

I wont be doing that intil mid December but if he doesnt get a better offer...well i will take him.

I'm a little shocked no-one has expressed interest in taking him on a trip...I will be going to costa rica jan 20th...and will take him with me there...so he will be again available for travel in early feb.

I have already enjoyed his company once, but we may be going somewhere in Feb. I'd love to have him along. BTW, you will enjoy Costa Rica. We enjoyed everything, but the Zipline with my daughter was one of those things that will always make me smile. it is an amazing time to go to Costa Rica. Cheap, safe, very Americanized.

Too bad we can't get something like "Net54 Large Ass Herzog Chain Trade" on it for posterity. 50 years from now that card might have accrued a significant historical value within the hobby. Look out Wagner, LAH's stock is rising.

But I don't suppose he needs a label, he is immediately recognizable without it. The one and only.

Haven't read the whole thread, but if large ass hasn't been to Wisconsin, I could show him a thing or two. I currently have a squirrel trapped, who could be responsible for the right border of the card. Let me know.

The squirrel is currently being held in solitary confinement and may not survive until the trial, because I haven't been able to find an attorney to defend the squirrel. Most of my neighbors in Northern Wisconsin have four legs or fins, accoutrements not shared by any of our attorneys.

I would post a photo of the prisoner, but I do not want to compromise the local jury pool with pretrial publicity. Nor do I want to draw attention to my Guantanamo of the North for obvious reasons.:)

So Large Ass Herzog is back in Lucas TX after a grueling 2012 National Baltimore. He joined my table partners, Jay M., Scott B, Richard M, and myself at breakfast one morning (a very good buffet), attended each day of the National set up on my table (as many members and others saw) and finally ended up at the Net54baseball Dinner. As the pictures (thanks Brett and Lyman) show he was on the podium with the Speakers at the Dinner. His diary has been updated and he is ready to fly to his next board member adventure. I just need to know where to send him.....

AND for the record, NO ONE that came up to my table actually KNEW why he is called "Large Ass" Herzog. The reason is that he has an Old Mill back. Old Mill backs have the wording "Large Assortment" near the bottom of the ad. On this T206 there are paper remnants over the last half of the word "Assortment" so all you see is "Large Ass" on the card. That is why he is Large Ass Herzog. IF anyone wishes to take him on his next adventure you can post here about it, PM me or email me. He has a lot of energy and He is ready to go!!

We are about two months away from the 2 year anniversary of the beginning of Buck's travels. He has been to many great sites the past two years, more than I could have imagined when we started.

I am not sure where he is currently resting but I figured I'd bump the thread back up to the top and repost the trade guidelines in hopes of re-energizing his travels.

The guidelines for the trade are this:
- Large Ass Herzog must be made available for trade again upon receipt.
- He may be traded for multiples, but must not be traded with any other card.
- He travels with a log book (I hope it still exists) that must be updated with dates and traded for info.
- The traded for item(s) must remain confidential (except for those with current log book access) even to past owners. If you want to know of LAH's trade history you have to trade for him.
- You must take a picture of yourself with LAH and post it on the site (this guideline quickly morphed into pics of Buck with local landmarks).
- You must re-post these rules when you make it available for trade (this one has not ben strictly followed, but the guidelines are posted and available so no big deal).

Here is a slideshow-type-thing I put together of his journey thus far.

Hello everyone –
First of all, I'm VERY SORRY for the lengthy delay in getting these pics posted from Buck’s latest tour. I had some unforeseen health issues last fall, and my work and travel gets extremely crazy beginning in January. Thankfully, Leon sent me a few reminders about Buck’s whereabouts, and I was finally able to track him down (I haven’t done anything with cards lately and quite frankly, I’d forgotten I had him!)

Anyway – here is what Buck “Large Ass” Herzog has been up to…

Since Buck is former Brave, I thought it would be interesting if he joined one of the most popular Braves of all time for the last few weeks of his playing career, so Buck and Chipper Jones spent some time together in September and October, as Chipper wound down his final weeks as an active player.

(I'm not sure how to separate the photos with text in between, so here's the full description of his travels, with pics below.)

Photo 1) On September 7, 2012, Buck went to Citi Field in New York and joined Chipper in the parking lot, at the location of the former Shea Stadium home plate. Chipper did a TV interview where he took the reporter and the viewers through his memories of his first career home run in 1995 at Shea. Buck recalled that reporters in his day were not nearly as attractive as they are today…

Photo 2) Buck enjoyed a three-game series at Philadelphia’s beautiful Citizens Bank Park in late September, including this beautiful day game in 9/23/12.

Photo 3) Buck concluded the regular season with a trip to Pittsburgh's PNC Park in October (Buck informed me he'd been here before with a fellow Net54 member, but was glad to be back). He enjoyed visiting the statue of his old friend Honus Wagner, and being on the field for batting practice and to see Photo 4) Chipper receive a gift from Andrew McCutchen and the Pirates.

Photo 5) Buck was passed around among several Braves players in the locker room at PNC Park. They were intrigued by his tour and his story. Fellow card enthusiast Tim Hudson spent a lot of time with Buck, and Photo 6) 2011 Rookie of the Year Craig Kimbrel was fascinated by the “Large Ass” line on Buck’s back.

Photo 7) On October 4, 2012, the Braves held a workout at Turner Field and Tim Hudson took Buck on the field for batting practice. Hudson (center) was joined by fellow card lovers (L-R) Cory Gearrin, Brandon Beachy, Craig Kimbrel and Freddie Freeman.

Photo 8) A day after being knocked out of the playoffs, Buck went to Turner Field on a quiet Saturday morning to help Chipper Jones clean out his locker for the final time.

Photo 9) Buck hangs out in Chipper's locker for a while before it's packed up...Can you find him (baseball card version of Where's Waldo)?

Photo 10) Buck says goodbye to a Chipper Jones jersey, before it is sent to the Hall of Fame. This is the jersey Chipper wore on 7/3/12, when he went 5-for-5 vs. the Cubs.

Photo 11) Buck hangs out with legendary manager Bobby Cox in spring training, March 2013.

Okay - so who's next? I'm taking requests for Buck's next home. Please let me know via PM if you'd like to have him and I'll pass him on...Before I forget him again!

By the way when this winds down I was hoping I could be last (as I was the first) so I could get pics of Buck with my sons again who have already changed dramatically since I did this two years ago :) when george gets all this back he is going to have the most popular t206 ever!

I was very concerned about large ass...as we have spent time together and had become like family...but...WOW!!!!! Those pics are quite impressive...you must have quite the pull at the ol' ballpark!!!!!

In Large Ass's absense...I took his teammate...Bill Sweeney with me to Israel...we just returned yesterday!!

Here are a few pics of him visiting Qumran where the dead sea scrools were found and one of us hiking near the en gedi spring in the mountains above the dead sea. We had a great trip!!!!

Amazing stuff! You know it’s a sports card forum when the hot brunette reporters lower half is chosen to be blocked by the graded card in the shot vs. Chipper Jones’s back side. :)

Great stuff Peter that last shot is really amazing.

</a>

Just wanted to post a quick update - Buck has been passed on to a new (or old...) travel companion who has some great places for him to visit this summer.

In re-reading George's original guidelines this morning, I realized I had failed to
a) post a pic of myself with Buck;
b) re-post the guidelines to refresh everyone on the general rules.

This is a picture I took with my favorite little collector - son Jack (age 8) - who is holding Buck. I'm holding my favorite card in our entire collection - Jack's 2013 baseball card! (sorry for the poor quality - shot was taken a while back with my phone camera)

Unfortunately the Cubs won.

George, that is awesome. Thanks for the update with pictures and everything. Ya'll look like you had a great time!!
I was hoping to get Buck back to go to the National and join the Net54baseball dinner again this year. He had such a good time on the podium with the speakers last year I thought he would want to do it again. Last year he had his own stand on top of one of the cases at our table for the whole show, other than at the Dinner. A lot of people got to see him for the first time. LMK if he is spoken for, for the time of the National, which is Wed July 31 through August 4th....
I would need him at least a day before that. Thanks again for taking care of him.

And Sean, I think Buck still has some legs .......but certainly it would be only fitting if you ended up with him for a while near the end....

Although, it is yours George, so of course you have final say....and maybe he should eventually rest in your possession since you bought him :).

I think he should definitely keep going. He can travel forever. I only got him back so I could bring him to this game... and to see the log book.

He is not yet spoken for, Leon, PM me an offer and your address and I'll get him in the mail. It would be great to get him back to the National.

At the Bob Feller Museum in Van Meter, Iowa.

<a href="http://s1199.photobucket.com/user/abothebear/media/The%20Travels%20of%20Buck%20Herzog/IMG_2059_zps8061c954.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa471/abothebear/The%20Travels%20of%20Buck%20Herzog/IMG_2059_zps8061c954.jpg" border="0" alt="2013/07 Bob Feller Museum 1 photo IMG_2059_zps8061c954.jpg"/></a>

With the last bat Babe Ruth ever held, which happened to be Feller's bat. Babe used it as a crutch to help him out on the field as he made his final public appearance before his death (according to the museum guy).

Eric, Your not letting him get wet in the rain are you?

No. We ducked under cover and waited out the rain delay and saw the Yanks win 9-1. Konerko hit career homer #432.

Got to see (perhaps) the first game with four 400 home run guys in the starting lineups. And watched Ichiro foul off a case of balls before flying out.

Buck will likely sleep on the train to Baltimore. After a day or two of rest, he'll be ready for travels with a new board member. If you'd like ol' LAH, send me a PM.

Looks like he had a good time. I would like to have him in Dec. when I go to the Keys to go deep sea fishing and next Dec. when I go to Cairns Australia to go fishing for big black marlin. He would have fun there since we will be staying on the boat inside the GBR at night. I wander if he knows how to scuba dive? That's in the future though so others can show him the rest of the world in the mean time.

I believe that good ol' Buck has been to 9 parks:

Safeco - Mariners
PNC Park (twice) - Pirates
Citifield - Mets
Citizens Bank Park - Phillies
Turner Field - Braves
Wrigley Field - Cubs
Nationals Stadium - Nationals
Fenway Park - Red Sox
Yankee Stadium - Yankees

Going to try to get him to his tenth this weekend; he'll be leaving the DC area on Monday for his next round of adventures...

Hey Erick,

Buck is a local Maryland guy. If you don't make it to Camden Yards, do you think he would like to take a trip around his old town, B'more? He's part of the Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame, I don't recall if he has anything in the Sports Legend Museum at the Yard. Also I am headed out to the Eastern Shore next week and would be willing to take him by Ridgely when he grew up and spent his later years, too. Might even be able to get the guys at the Eastern Shore Baseball Foundation over in Salisbury to open up for a visit, before he hits the road again for his next destination.

Shoot me a PM and let's see if we can work out the details.

Marty
