How much will it cost to mail a one ounce package with the postage increase this month? I thought it was remaining $1.22, but now I am hearing it is $1.71.

$1.71 up to 3 ounces.
If you mail a card in a small photo mailer, less than 6 1/8" x 11 1/2" and less than 1/4" thick, it becomes a non-machinable letter and will cost you 84 cents for 2 oz and $1.04 for 3 oz. #S06181 is a 6x8 hard mailer. $37 plus shipping for a box of 100.
U-line has some nice envelopes that fit this category. #S06181 is a 6x8 hard mailer. $37 plus shipping for a box of 100.

Just keep in mind that a mailpiece has to be more than 3/4 of an inch thick for delivery confirmation.
I had one rejected for that, but written up as needing to be priority mail. and with the previous years rate. And the post office I'd been to the day before was selling DC on a 8 1/2 x 11 flat envelope..... I'm pretty sure they've made it confusing enough that even they don't know what's going on.

Steve, you are correct. It has to be 3/4" thick for DC, which then forces you to pay the first class parcel rates or send it by Priority Mail, then it doesn't matter how thick it is.

Yes, If I am shipping 1 or 2 cards I use the photo mailer and ship as a non machinable letter. If I ship 3 or more cards I use a bubble mailer and pay the first class parcel rate.

At least there is no gas surcharge. I just saw an ad with the USPS bragging about how they don't have a gas surcharge. No, it is a permanent surcharge. :confused:

Rick, One last question, are you able to put your own stamps on it or do you have to have them metered at the Post Office?

I almost always use my own stamps. I can do it at home before I go to work and it saves me some time.

Ha.....$1.71.......it'll probably be $3.71 pretty soon......they lost $8.5B last year, projected to lose $6.5B this year which will tap their federal government max line of credit at $15B and have extremely underfunded pension obligations. The postal service of a couple years from now will look NOTHING like that of today. Look for Priority mail to about double in price.....what it actually costs them to provide it.....ditching Saturday delivery will save them $2-3B......tough going....good thing they don't have to pay taxes on their vehicles or buildings.....

Could use UPS, but their prices start at ? I spent 20 minutes on their website and the lowest residential price I could find was $13. UPS ground might be a little cheaper.

The online postage rates are a little cheaper. If it's Ebay, the click and ship through Paypal gets the online rate. Also DC is free for priority done online, and just .19 for first class. And the mailman will take the packages. The branch I use has told me not to wait in line if the stuff is already paid with an online label. I wait anyway to avoid making the people in line cranky, but maybe someday when the line is really long I'll just drop them off.
