Pittsburgh golfers?

I'm planning to meet an old friend for a few days of golf in or around Pittsburgh, as it is more or less midway between our respectives homes. Can anyone advise as to the better public courses? And, for that matter, convenient hotels and restaurants? Many thanks.

Mark, not sure about public courses, but if you can find a way to get on Oakmont it will be well worth it. I was lucky enough to play it about three months after the Open in '07 and I don't have the words to describe how good it is.
Probably not much help, but maybe a good time to try groveling.

Here in RI I got in my 1st round of the year today---it hit 73° around Providence area & several courses opened this week.

Any other northern golfers been out yet?
