Collectors commonly call him Rebel Oakes, but on the back of his T205 card, it's "Rehel" Oakes. It's even spelled that way twice, and in quotation marks. So, which is correct?

Rebel or Reb was a common nickname for any player from the South through the 1930s or so, much like Rube for anyone from the country. My money would on Rebel as the only listing on Rehel I found for him was referring to the T205s. He went to LSU and I would bet some original records would exist there.

When you see the proximity of the two letters on your Blackberry, one can understand the mistake ;)

Besides, his given name was Ennis Telfair. Rehel wouldnt have been much of an upgrade.
