My second SC350 Factory 30 with Factory Stamp

Okay-okay, so it's only like 5% of a factory stamp.

Has anyone seen a full number 30 stamp though? I've seen 4 or 5 now, with none more than around 30% visible.

Trae,

Yes full ones are out there, I know of a board member that has a stellar Matty Port with a full #30 on the back. Perhaps he will share....

Hey Dan, where is the "Big League Chewing Gum" on the bottom of the Goudey Vaughan? I thought all 1933's had that (except Lajoie, of course). Something I don't know about? Wouldn't be the first time!

Hey Ken,

I don't think any card after #190 or so has the "Big League Chewing Gum" designation on the front of the card. There are also some prior to #190 that don't have it either such as #112 (Schulte), #142 (Richards), etc...

I am not exactly sure why, hopefully someone with more knowledge can chime in.

Ken

there are a number of the 1933 Goudey cards that do not have the BIG LEAGUE CHEWING GUM banner on the bottom. See also the Richards, Berger, and others. Some great colors on those cards !

I have not seen one either....I would make sure it is in fact a blank back and not a skinned Cobb as well. Many blank back T206's are not much more than T206's that have been skinned.

Where did the card come from just curious?

It's off to SGC tomorrow. Fairly certain it will grade A based on experience and other knowledgeable collector's opinions. I didn't really want to get into a "is it authentic" discussion so if it turns into that, I'll probably just pull the picture and edit my post. Thanks for the interest, though. I love this board and wanted to share my excitement!

Good stuff. Not sure you took my post right etc? But as fairly knowledgeable collector myself I was just offering up a possible pit fall to watch for and commenting on the card. Wasn't looking for a debate.

Gotcha. I mean no disrespect. I've read your posts and appreciate your contribution to the board. I also appreciate the note that some "Blank back" cards are actually skinned cards.

I understand completely, Tim. It's just after seeing an Ed Delehanty, Ty Cobbs, Christy Mathewsons, etc....I just had to throw that out there. I do enjoy collecting my [pre war] vintage Boston Red Sox, even though my pickups may not be as extravagant as others. :)

Appreciate the comment though. The Cracker Jack is a beaut in person, the red background really pops! Great E98 Evers as well, that set is very neat with the black and white photos on the colored backgrounds.

Great stuff so far guys. It's not about the budget it's about enjoying what you are doing.

Scott R- On that Cracker Jack...that is a neat pose. Many of us collect catcher poses as their gear is really neat looking. I have types of several series' cards in my collection where the pose is of a catcher. This one didn't have any catchers. Thanks to a fellow board member for it.

Hi Jason,

I have not been to the Mansfield MA show in a few years now. When I used to go, all the dealers were selling newer cards. Is there more T-Card offering at this show now? If so, I need to check it out.

Thanks & nice pickup

I was pleasantly surprised with the variety at the show, as modern cards do tend to dominate. For the first time in a while, the material available was
close to 50/50. The dealer I purchased from had a large selection of raw and graded issues, including T206, T205, E90-1, E101, and R319. They had some 19th century items too, but I didn't make it to that end of their table.

I recently had a very nice find of t213-II Coupon Tobacco cards.
The seller, who was from Metaire, LA., also had some Cracker Jacks a General Baking and This Ty Cobb with a Tango Egg back.

The card had previously been rumored to exist, but apparently had never been seen, at least not by the masses.

I have already sold the card, and I believe it is now in a SGC 10 Holder.
Condition wise, truly a card only a mother could love, but what a rarity!!

Here it is: Ty Cobb Tango Egg Back!

Great cards, guys--motivation to keep the flame burning! Especially liked Jeff's 1926-1929 Exhibits Cobb and 1916 Mordecai (Three-Finger) Brown, and David B's 1923-1924 Exhibits Genewich (tough cards, those '23-'24's. Maybe someday I'll bump into the Ruth, at a time when I can afford it).

I was wondering, Jeff, if your collecting focus is the same as mine: stars and hall-of-famers, in the best condition you can find or afford? I would assume the yellow-toned Cobb is pretty tough to find.

With best regards,

Larry

My first Obak, Monte Pfyl. After seeing so many pictured here on this forum, I decided to get one and see what they were about. I think I picked a nice looking Obak and a player with a curious history. Monte Pfyl had just 1 sip from his cup of coffee as a Major Leaguer. He made his 1 and only plate appearance on July 30th, 1907 with the NY Giants and got a sac bunt. That was all his Major League playing time. I can imagine Old John McGraw yelling down to the other end of the bench, "Hey kid, go get your bat." Then telling him to lay one down.

By the way, these Obaks are pretty neat cards.

This was the raw Demmitt (St. Louis) from the Chicago Sun Times show last weekend. Took it straight over to SGC. Nice for the grade, no creases, clean - I'm very happy with it! O'Hara left to go to be "Complete minus Big 4" (instead of "Big 5")

New pickups. I've finally realized that I may never get Griffith's real RC, so his T206 will have to do for now.

Also, finally found a Doby Leaf!

Pretty fairly priced cards; two Southern Leaguers and another double name miscut.

I love looking at all of your vintage cards guys and enjoy reading about rare cards I've never seen before. I may not be on your level, but I did just pick up a '33 Goudey Gehrig #92 SGC 60 (5). Nice centering.

Welcome to the board, Pete. Great looking Gehrig too. You just can't go wrong with that card. Very classic. Thanks for joining in the reindeer games too. As for being on anyone's level, to me, we are all "collectors".

Picked up this very cool advertising card for Capital Beach with a shot of the ball park where Lincoln played their Sunday games because of Blue Laws.

Pete, nice OJ. Is it the scan or is that card black & white instead of sepia? If b&w, I've never seen one before.
Also interesting is that Greenwood is a lefthanded second baseman.
