View Full Version : Freddy, what have you done to yourself?

A recently purchased T206, PSA 6 (SIX!) shows the portrait of Fred Parent. In this version of reality, Mr. Parent has grown a red mustache.

From this, two lines of conversation might work.

1. What's the strangest looking card in your collection?, or

2. Does PSA ever consider registration when assigning a grade?

Freddy, being from Maine, seems to have had a fondness for the red hotdogs that we have up here.

That's a neat card. It should have an (MK) qualifier. Here's another vintage 'stache, a la Chaplin:

Here's another missed qualifier:

I don't think PSA takes too much into consideration on registration. I had a Mathewson T206 portrait that got a PSA6 that was REALLY bad.......fortunately, I still got GREAT dollars for it............

I don't think it's a (MK) issue unless the stash was added post production. It is as the OP suggests a registration issue or printing process issue. PSA should take that into consideration reducing the grade accordingly.

I've wondered about my E103 which our friends at SGC still gave a 50, although I didn't totally love the registration on it...

Oh, I thought it was post-production. It's even neater since the flaw occurred where a mustache would be.

EX-MT 6: Excellent-Mint
A PSA EX-MT 6 card may have visible surface wear or a printing defect which does not detract from its overall appeal. A very light scratch may be detected only upon close inspection. Corners may have slightly graduated fraying. Picture focus may be slightly out-of-register. Card may show some loss of original gloss, may have minor wax stain on reverse, may exhibit very slight notching on edges and may also show some off-whiteness on borders. Centering must be 80/20 or better on the front and 90/10 or better on the reverse.

I don't have any strange cards to post and cannot answer question #2, but I have seen a few T206s (like Mr. Parent) with a Kool-Aid moustache.

On a side note, I saw a T206 of Rhoades (arm extended) the other day that the registration was so far off his fingers were out into the white border.

Are there any E90-1 Joe Jackson's which don't have the lipstick lips?

The ungraded one below comes close but he looks like he's frowning...the other the SGC is dead on and one of the best I've seen for no lipstick.

I've posted this before -- one of the reasons '48 SPs are so hard to find. Who would save such a thing? For that matter, what idiot would buy it?
