I'm new here on the board, but I am a 21 year collector of baseball signatures. Glad to have the opportunity to be a part of such a knowledgeable group here.

There is a current auction running on Ebay for what appears to me to be a bad fake of a Lou Gehrig signature, and the seller is really trying to push its authenticity, but he has started at a very low price. The "G" seems very drawn instead of flowing. Any opinions on this one?

I've posted a photo of it here. It looks like it took someone 20 minutes to draw that Lou Gehrig.

It's real, it's just a misprint in the title. That's Leo Gehrig's signature, not Lou's. Probably just an honest mistake. Leo shined shoes in New York during the 40's. :p Ruth used to tease him all the time about his name, but always left him a big tip.
That's him in the cap. A real hustler ;)

My story's better and uses fewer words. :p

Seriously, ebay will have to take this, this thing, down.

Welcome to the board Mark, and as Chris and the others have said, HORRIBLE fake indeed. Feel free to ask anyone's opinion on here on sigs, esp Chris W, Richard Simon, and David A. amongst others.

From the auction:
"I will guarentee the signature to be at least 40 year's old."

Great - so that means it was signed in 1970.

Somebody, who was bidding throughout, actually paid $219 for this piece of paper.
I just read the entire auction. This seller really could not have a HS diploma. If he does then wherever he went to school should be ashamed. If this is an example of the American educational system, than we really are in trouble.
His use of the English language is laughable or sad, not sure which.

On the other hand, liked the accompanying music to the auction.

Another case where the buyer and bidders were hoodwinked into believing what they wanted to be truth, that a Gehrig could actually be gotten for $219.

Well at least the seller gives you 5 days after the auctions ends to get it authenticated:rolleyes:

and that music playing was just awful
