Welcome to our current auction. The running dates are January 20th - 29th, 2011 with a 9:00 CST w/ 15-Minute rule ending time.

I want to thank all of the bidders that participated in the “Never Ending” December auction. It was our best auction to date. We had a record number of new bidders, bidders that participated and total number of bids. Based on the increased volume coupled with the holiday, the auction just did not want to end! This was something totally unexpected.

Many customers voiced their opinions about the problems with our previous ending system, so for this auction, we have adopted the following ending procedures to address some very valid concerns.

For the MEARS January 20th - 29th, 2011 auction, we will be keeping 9:00 CST ending time, and the 15-Minute per lot rule will be in place. This means the auction will continue after the 9:00 CST time until there has been no bid placed on any lot for 15 minutes.

The one change will be that bidding will close at 2:00 AM CST, (3:00 AM EST), regardless of the remaining bids. These new policies will be posted on our website, and sent via email to all bidders. Many suggestions were given, and I feel that this change will address the majority of the complaints, while keeping the rest of the bidding as close to our previous (and successful by our standards) model that we have in place. Now to the “stuff”.

A new feature, original “The Sporting News” Illustration art, debuts in this auction. "The Sporting News" newspaper provided its readers with original illustration art, made popular by the Sunday "funnies" and columnist like Robert Ripley with his "Believe it or Not" weekly feature. Original artwork allowed the staff of TSN to quickly address a great moment in sports or highlight the accomplishments of a player and to personalize the piece to the event. With the flexibility awarded to the artist's imagination, illustration art is more time relevant than the company’s dated photographic stock. By the nature of the process, the images and events depicted in this form of original artwork were more special in nature than what appeared in photographic form. Meaning, these items are rare, special, and one of a kind works of art used to commemorate a very special player and event. Most of this unique artwork was published in the pages of TSN, although we cannot guarantee that fact. We do not believe this to be "proof" or unpublished art, as it originated from the files used in the creation of the publication. Published artwork sells for a premium, and this lot will create an opportunity for the studious collector than can match work to a specific issue.
