As it's ungraded and has not-so-great pics, I'm curious if this card looks good to the more trained eye. The buyer doesn't have a lot of feedback but is a 9 year ebayer. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!

Matt - I read this thread already, which is what raised the alarm on this one. The roof of the building and the "G" in George don't look as close to the border. Thanks for the link though. :)

I know, I know... Probably a bad idea. It's just that he isn't a brand new seller and it didn't look like the other fake busted on the board. I just can't afford a graded one so I was looking for a deal.

Here's a possible clue:
Returns: No returns accepted. Covered by eBay Buyer Protection- opens in a new window or tab.
Please be careful here and don't believe that ebay buyer protection crap either!

Good point. Oh well, I guess I should stick to graded.

Anyone have a '33 Ruth graded "A" that they would trade for two thousand 1989 Topps cards and a Jose Canseco rookie? :D

Let's see, the seller has;

a graded 1948 Leaf Joe DiMaggio
a graded 1968 Topps Johnny Bench
a graded 1975 Topps George Brett
a graded 1982 Cal Ripken Jr

BUT ALSO HAS

an ungraded 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth
an ungraded T206 Ty Cobb
an ungraded 1939 Play Ball Ted Williams
an ungraded 1964 Topps Mickey Mantle
an ungraded 1954 Topps Jackie Robinson
an ungraded 1956 Topps Roberto Clemente
an ungraded 1954 Topps Ernie Banks

It seems kind of STRANGE that the seller would get only certain cards graded and NOT other cards. That, to me, is a red flag of a scam artist, i.e. sprinkle in some REAL cards amongst the fakes to give buyers a little better feeling about the authenticity of ALL the cards.

Also, it is REALLY strange that the last Feed Back the seller has as a buyer is from January 22, 2003 and the last Feed Back they have as a seller is from March 28, 2002. Almost eight years away from their account and THEN they start back again. What happened, were they in prison?

This might be a hijacked account.

Some PSA graded cards, mixed in with some why the heck wouldn't you at least have them graded cards.

Jarrod,

You did well to ask the board first. I bought one of these which the board deemed a fake a few days ago. You might want to review what they said;

As far as why some are graded, some not, why 8 years between selling and buying, my opinion is that we sometimes tend to presume too much. There could be a million legitimate reasons as to why, to any of these questions.

This card does look good at the bottom border, but then again there seems to be a curious line down there.

One thing I learned: Ask the seller for a better scan.

I also googled this, if it helps any:

Comparing the known authentic to the ebay card, there is something odd about the hat. But perhaps the pinhole has distorted it.

Hope you get a definitive answer. I'm curious myself.
