I've added 23 newly acquired Old Judges to my N172 page at:

I'm up to 142 different OJs now. The new-ish cards have the pose numbers listed.

Bruce--What a fantastic group! The photos are sharp and the format makes looking at the cards a real pleasure.

Very nice Bruce. Thanks for sharing. You have some of my favorite poses in there. I always liked that Meyer one, where he is crossing his arms.

Even I'm impressed. I love Whitney with dog, and Williamson and mascot...well, truth be told, I like them all.

Great collection. Favorite pose is the Geiss. Followed closely by the Hengle. (is that a slide?!)
Thank you for sharing.

Bruce - Thanks for sharing - I like the fact you focus just on the card and not the slab around them. (Not that there is anything wrong with that...) Also the website has crisp color scheme and nice background. 5 Stars

Cheers,

JJ

Hey Bruce, I've been a fan of your website(s) for many years, great looking cards! Nice variety throughout. Do you have an Old Judge goal? I'd think that some capable of completing a Newsboy set could probably top 480 or so OJ subjects :)

Bruce--That Joe Gonsowski is a trouble maker (LOL). In the old days, about ten years ago, I used to tell people that, if they worked hard, 450 different players were possible and over time you could get to 480 or so. Since then the cards have gotten more difficult to find and I would think that the new 450 is 420-430.

People call the T206 set the monster when in fact the only factor preventing people from completing it is money. For a large, mainstream set the old judge set is the real monster. Bill Gates could not complete the set today if he tried.

Jay- Bill Gates could come close to completing the set if he made a high enough bid for yours, don't you think? You know, like maybe a $500 million offer would seal the deal.:)

Right now the goal is 150! I know I can complete the BCs. Beyond that? Who knows. Part of the perverse attraction of N172 is knowing that the set can't be completed, even by Bill Gates.

Bruce, what do you mean by "BCs?"

p.s. Awesome cards, thanks for sharing.

BCs - short for Brown's Champions.

There are 13 in the subset and I'm at 11.

Good point Jay, I concur 100%. I'm egging Bruce on to shoot for a high target since seeking rarity hasn't slowed him down in the past (some of the Newsboy cabinets are extremely tough). With Old Judge cards, what was once many nice collections has been somewhat consolidated into fewer larger collections and the offerings have dwindled. Growing a collection from scratch, one card at a time, to an appreciable size would be far more difficult these days. The best opportunity to hit a high card count with some of the set rarities would be to save big and bid aggressive on an advanced collector’s lot when it comes to auction. REA had two such lots recently. One with 592 cards, 444 different subjects and another with just over 400 subjects that went for $212k & $112k respectively:

The next "big lot" may be awhile in coming, so you have some time to save up. The true rarities are often auctioned in smaller lots or individually and then it is anyone’s guess how high it will go. Picking up a complete or near complete run of Spotted Ties, for example, could really help increase the subject count. Networking with other advanced collectors and wisely managing your dups would also pay big dividends.

Now, to bring this back on topic . . . Bruce, are you going to add pose numbers to all your Old Judges?, I'm a stickler for uniformity :)

Yes, Joe, I will be updating all of the images with the proper numbers. It's a cheaper plan than spending 6 figures with REA!

I started very slowly. First one in about 1981. Then a few HOFers over the years. At least half of the group came in the past 4 years, though. I was occupied with other sets in the meantime but have completed most of those now.

I know Bruce got more than a few of them from me...if I could only remember which ones.
