Can anyone give me an idea of what an E107 of Waddell in a PSA4 might sell for. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

A total guess....but maybe somewhere around 20k for a SGC 50 - PSA 4 in this economy for a Waddell?

I would say closer to $30,000. I remember a SGC 20 in last year's Legendary auction went for around $8,000.

Would you be able to post a scan?

I'm not an expert but 30K for a Waddell sounds way too high. I'll say more like 15-20K.

I'd love to see a scan.

Personally, I can't see a PSA 4 E107 Waddell going for $30k. The $20k level is right around where I would expect it to land, but I've been wrong before.

Oh... and just in case anyone is checking, I hear that a preposition is a very bad word to end a sentence with.

Brian- feel free to end a sentence with a preposition around here!

My experience with the E107 set is limited, but I've found Waddell to be the HOFer that turns up most often. Certainly won't suggest it's common, but it's in a whole different category than say Joe Kelley.

How many Kelley's have you come across Barry?

Exactly zero. But I've had at least a few Waddells, including a type 2.

I wouldn't doubt back in 2006 or 2007 it may have fetched 30k, just my own opinion is it would be more towards 20k right now with the economy....but, as they say it only takes two bidders.

Barry -

Wasn't there a Joss in a higher grade than a 4 that sold a year or two ago? I was thinking there was like a Joss in a 60 or 70 holder that may have fetched over 50k? I may be confusing it with another player.

I don't know if I've seen an E107 Joss. That's got to be a tough one, and if it's in a 60 holder...well that would be a very special card.

Joss isn't all that tough relatively speaking (w/o consideration to grade), Kelley is though.

Well I got up off my lazy butt and looked up the E107 Joss. I must have been wrong..not seeing where a SGC 60 or 70 has sold. There has been a 40 Joss sold that went for 13k and change back in 2008.

Based on that....I'd still say a PSA 4 or SGC 50 Waddell wouldn't be more than 20k....

Kevin Struss currently has a Joss for sale on his website:

Thanks Rob. Not a common card.

That's one beautiful looking Joss! (and Kevin is highly recommended in case anyone doesn't know him).

By comparison, I'm sure that Waddell has more fans / collectors than Kelley so that helps the value of the Waddell. In fact, many players that "died too young" seem to have a pretty strong following in the collector's realm. Delahanty, Joss, Waddell, Gehrig, and Clemente come to mind, but I'm sure there are others. Waddell was such an eccentric bird that he's a favorite. Since we are on the topic, here's my E107 Waddell.

That's one heck of a card Brian.

Brian,

Was that the one in Legendary last Nov?

The only reason I stated $30,000, is that it's not common for an E107 HOF to show up for sale in a grade higher than a 2 or 3. Without seeing a picture, it might be a very strong 4, then again it might not be.

Like others have said, it only takes 2 bidders to run up a high price.

Thanks for the kudos, Dave and Tim. To answer your question, I have had my Waddell for over 2 years now, so it wasn't in a recent auction.

I'm sure there are other ungraded versions floating around out there, but as far as the graded pop of an E107 Waddell (type 1), there are only 7 listed between SGC and PSA. Hard to believe that's considered to be "common"

Editted to add that the graded population of Joss and Waddell are identical at 7.

My personal observation is I have seen Waddell more than Joss. But a personal observation doesn't often tell the whole story.

Killer card there -- LOL

Rich

For those who don't know Wayne; he's been around since the dawn of the hobby and used to own a store in the DFW area and also worked at Beckett for a few years; he was a Price Guide Editor for the 2nd iteration of the vintage magazine and got a great group of hobbyists to contribute back in the day

Thanks to everyone who replied. I will post a scan just as soon as I get it back. A friend of mine had it graded at PSA a few days ago and emailed me the grade.

wow, where did he get it?!

a newly graded example? I guess my graded pop report is out of date. Add 1 to the E107 Waddell graded pop number I stated earlier (presuming this is a different card than the one that was graded by PSA previously).

I too would love to hear where your friend picked it up.

Wayne,

Did your friend happen to have any other E107's he picked up, or was the Waddell the only one?

If there were any others, do you happen to know who they were?

Tony
