Hard to tell anything from the images, though I can't recall seeing a reprint where the blue ink was off-registered as it is on this card.
Looks like some experienced folks bid on this one.

Fake front glued onto real back.

What makes you think so? As I mentioned, I've never seen a fake Plank with the blue ink off-registered like that. The coloring looks off in the image, but it's a photo, not a scan, so the light might be playing tricks.

I was curious about that card too. If it were any other player (not Hans), I would have assumed it's real.

FAKE!!! I found the dumbest ebayer. It is whoever bought this card. LOOK:

Also I found another Plank that sold cheaper than that one but looks more authentic & look at the junk this guy is still selling.

blurry homemade fake.

The image is just not crisp, and looks like a copy to me, both front and back

The card is a fake and the blurry photograph helps mask it some, but it is a fake.

If you look at the right edge of the reverse, which is the top of this ridiculous horizontal image, you can see what looks like a slightly skewed seam. Did somebody really pay $1200 for this? Unbelievable.

This seller has never dealt on ebay with any authentic card earlier than the 1970's.

Furthermore, the front coloring of a real Plank is different than the one sold. The coloring of this Plank
is very similar to the reprint shown here.

If anyone thinks this Plank is real, then Barry Sloate has a Bridge nearby him to sell.

If I thought I had a real Plank, I would sent have a nicer upfront scan, not one sideways & of course have it graded by a legit grading company. The paper stock on the back appears to be too thick to be real & the printing on the front of the cards appears to be too dark to be real. Not worth the gamble even at that selling price.

I pulled the image but it's too blurry to compare when you blow it up.

Fellas: that's a 100K card if real. Do you really think the seller would sell it the way he did if it was real? Seriously?

ctownboy

Calvin,

Those are my thoughts exactly.

The seller currently has cards for sale and has sold cards in the past. He listed the card as a T206, so he HAS to have some idea WHAT the card is. All he has to do is look up T206 Plank in a price guide and see what reference prices are. If he just digs a little deeper, he can Google T206 Plank and pull up cards that have sold at auction and SEE how much they go for.

Not having the card graded and WILLINGLY selling it for what he sold it for tells me ALL I need to know about the card.

Also, if any well heeled member of this board saw the card and thought it was REAL, don't you think they would dig out their checkbook and bid $5,000 or $10,000 for it?

I mean, I read about people willing to buy a card on eBay for a couple of hundred dollars and try to flip it for a $50 or $100 profit, if they think they can, so why not buy a card for $1,000 dollars and try and sell it for $75,000 or $100,000 dollars?

damn good home-made counterfeit? reprints never look that nice. might be just a bit too tinty need better printer or photo editing software. hopefully a board member here was the winner so he could report back about the card stock. those are always dead giveaway.

this one looks 100x better than the $560 plank from the link above

This belongs on the BST. :D

I don't think the seller was trying to fake anyone out with a blurry photo. He took the same horizontal photo for all his cards including his 1999 Champ Bailey. His card selection seems flea market-ish to me; maybe where they came from? I'm leaning toward what Barry said, Fake front. I don't see the overlap he is referring to but the back just looks real to me.

Well...I don't actually have the deed for the bridge. It was only hypothetically for sale.:)

Same seller of the other Plank that went for $550, sold a 52 Mantle for 5000 a few weeks ago, and now has that same card up again. Either a 2nd fake or a return. Same thing with the Rookie Joe Jackson's, has sold 2 or 3 of those. Funny how this seller is new to Ebay this month, lists only the top cards, originally states they would not accept Paypal.

Who are the mental midgets bidding on these? Maybe if the bidding on these would stop then the selling of these would.

Looks like he is re-listing the Joe Jackson. Just had a neutral feedback left from a the buyer of that card last week. He still hasn't recieved it.

Listing a card as "unknown" is one thing but he is listing his junk as "Original" and should be subject to criminal prosecution. Also I wish ebay would have some kind of chat forum on the auction pages so any buyers would see a discussion about these cards being bogus. Or a "fake"-"original" poll.

I've reported the 3 current item he has up to Ebay. I also contacted 6 or 7 of the previous buyers of his items, 6 or 7 I guess is all Ebay will let u contact in a day. So I'll contact the rest tomorrow.

Just asked them if they knew the card they bought was a fake and if it was returned. If they reply I want to ask them why they thought it was real with so many red flags. I hope to educate them a lil' cuz the less stupid people in the world the better. Minus me of course the world needs me......for something, just not sure what yet ; )

How do sellers get away with this? It is great Moe that you police these auctions the best you can. I just feel bad for these folks..

I do what I can so others won't have that feeling. Almost quit collecting becuz of it, I know a friend of mine who did actually quit because it happened to him with autographs.

Back to this seller:

One buyer, the one who purchased the rookie Aaron from BaseballChick just replied to me that they did get their money back and that it was a different card sent then what was pictured.

Waiting to hear back from the others. Hopefully if just one of these people did not realize it was a fake it's not too late to get their money back for them. Don't want this seller make 1 sale!

Well one of the buyer, actually the 1st, so I originally thought maybe the 1st card they sent out was real to establish good feedback, but as it turns out the 1st buyer from Baseballchick who bought the Leaf Ruth, had no idea the card was a fake when they rec'd it and up until the point I contacted him. I told him to get it checked out asap, 2 days later his response:

"Hey man, I just got my 1948 Ruth checked out and
it is a fake. Thanks for the heads up. I would
have never known. I am in the process of getting
my money back. I will keep you informed. Thanks,
Heath"

And yet Ebay ignores me when I keep reporting this sellers items, they are not taking them down. Unbelieveable. And now they have another fake Ruth and a fake DiMaggio. I'll just keep contacting the winners. Ugh!

I reported the Mantle but it still went for $4,200. It looks like she it taking a scan of a original and then send them fakes. The card in her hand is not the one in the close up scan:

1) Based on the hand in the Mantle picture, based on the seller selling baseball cards and a motorcycle, I don't think baseballchick is a girl/woman.

2) Why would you take a picture of a 1952 Topps Mantle you are trying to sell while in a car? Wouldn't a better background and a clearer picture make the card easier to sell?

Not sure if Ebay shut them down or they closed out themselves, as I did contact the seller, no response. 2 or 3 buyers had fakes and didn't know. Crazy.
