Mr. Gehringer was a wonderful through the mail (ttm) signer for years.

I purchased this at a Flea Market a few years ago. I know nothing about autos but it looked good to me and the price was right. I also think Gehringer has one of the nicest autographs out there.

I believe this auto might be earlier than the others shown above. A few of the letters look less shaky. What do you auto people think?

I agree, that is an earlier signature.

I believe this is a Type 1 ARTVUE postcard which was produced between 1953 and 1955. Of course it could have been signed anytime after 1953.

Out of the hundreds of autographs that I have gotten thru the mail, his is my favorite.

Agreed - as a kid in the 70s I can still remember sending a few cards to him to get signed and they all came back in a week with his perfect signature - made quite an impression on me, and I always wished my signature looked half as nice!

Gehringer was typical of Hall of Famers at the time...seemed like you could get just about anyone through the mail...even as late as the 1980's...with the recent passing of Sparky, we really only have Doerr and MacPhail left. Ugh...

Is that the only HOF's signing thru the mail nowadays? It has been many years since I have sent off to any.

That is a shame. Guess alot have their "contracts" now.

Other Hall of Famers that have signed for FREE(cost of a SASE) for me are Ryne Sandberg, Al Kaline, Paul Molitor, Joe Morgan(his index card only), Stan Musial(his stat card only) and Duke Snider...some of them might charge a fee now but most other HOFers you definately have to pay.

I can still remember the good old days when I started to collect TTM and even Joe D. would sign for free. Things have sure changed since those days.
