After seeing this would you still use BGS to grade cards? I personally like their slabs for the protection they offer for my personal collection, but I don't know that I can ever trust their grading service again.

I don't see the problem. The slab tells exactly what the card is.

what do you expect them to put on the slab? they graded the card. did you want them to downgrade it due to visual appeal? It says "miscut" right on the label.

Yep, it was not me but it has to be the worst card ever graded!

Too funny., The numerical grade is irrelevant in this case. It's certain to be a 1/1

This is one of the most hilarious things I've seen in years. Thank you for making my night. I personally would buy that card just so I can pull it out and laugh from time to time.

Funniest thing I've seen on this forum. I almost spit Coke all over my monitor. Something tells me the card isn't for sale, but I would also be bidding on it.

I don't think I'd bid on it; it's too off-center. :p

You should see the Mike Vick "Dog Chewed" RC BGS 1. I thought i still had a picture of it but i can't seem to find it.

As far as the thread, i see nothing wrong with how the card is graded and labeled. Some people (not you in particular Bill;)) like to hate on BGS for any reason they can think of

I discussed that card on another forum about a week ago and i posed this question that no one could answer....

Beckett has sub-grades, and one of the sub-grades is for centering. Now your final grade from Beckett cannot be more then 1 above the lowest sub-grade.

So someone tell me how that card received at least an 8 for centering???

This is also the most valuable Ryan Leaf card on the planet for some reason!

Ryan Leaf has valuable cards?

Beckett made a name for themselves by being unreasonably tough on modern cards. I'm surprised they changed that part of their strategy. People know they changed their standards. I see BGS cards advertised as "old holder" and they seem to sell for more.

I guarantee you because the card is labeled as "miscut" they didn't take the same centering standards into consideration as they would with a "normal" card.

Actually the head grader of BGS is a member here and if he sees this thread i bet he will say the same thing.

I just find it strange as I have never seen BGS use a "qualifier" before. I know PSA has been doing it for years.

If you believe in BVG, now you don't:

sorry, but what are you trying to say by posting these scans? Both scans (especially the Mantle) are very poor and there is no way by looking at those scans that you can tell me their grading is way off. Or is it something else im looking for? Honestly im not sure why i will "no longer believe in BGS" by looking at these scans.

The Mantle has a pen mark on the back of it. There is a red X through the card number. The Seaver has some pretty weak corners and centering for a 6.

Yes, the Red Mark "x" on the Mantle back, and look at the faded yellow color on the Seaver...

Actually, even though they are an advertiser I feel compelled to say how I feel about their grading. I trust BVG more than any company except SGC (and to me, those 2 are close) to grade cards, by a very large amount. Do they make mistakes? I guess the better question would be "are they human?" Every single card I have had graded by BVG was graded fairly and very conservatively. I will continue to use BVG for specific cards and will use SGC as I always have. Both give great service and are hands down the best in the business....in my opinion. take care

I should clarify, I think BVG are suspect (pre80s) but BGS for the 80s-modern is a good service and I like their holders/sub-grades. But mid to low grade vintage they seem to have their collective head (or is it heads?) up their arse (or is it arses?). I mean look at that Seaver and the Mantle! There is NO WAY that the grader has ever seen an actual Seaver RC in person 'cause if they had that card just doesn't get a "6". I just don't think their staff has any experience with vintage. I also bought a T-card in a BVG that got a VG 3 and it has two medium creases which also soured me truth be told.

I think BGS has the most secure holders in the business. They are tanks.
Have you ever tried to crack one open? I think someone would have a
hard time trying to tamper with one of their holders.

My opinion best holders worst graders. I trust gai for a card being real and unaltered more than I do bgs. I don't 100% trust any of them. Derek and Scott at Sgc are the two best graders( currently grading) but I believe even they make a mistake after all they are human.

Both of the cards mentioned above have supersized scans if you look in the description area. The BVG 4 has a large red X through the number and the area around the number looks like it has been recolored. The BVG 6 has print marks, corner and edge wear, and looks like it should be a 4 at best.

I don't distrust BVG or BGS, but I hate their holder. It is undoubtedly a better holder than the PSA POS and probably better than SGC but it looks lousy. Too many layers of plastic between me and my card. And I cannot get a scan w/o hot spots no matter how much I tweak the settings.
