For those of you who collect single players, why that/those player(s)?

I actively collect three, plus a bonus:

Lefty O'Doul: Great back story, seemed to be a great guy, lots of cards from my favorite era.

Benny Leonard: The greatest of all Jewish fighters, great guy, lots of cards from my favorite era.

Joe Louis: IMO nudges out Ali as the greatest heavyweight of all time (Sugar Ray Robinson is the GOAT pound for pound--Mayweather isn't fit to sniff his crap). Astounding story to his life, lots of really difficult items to collect.

Julie Newmar: Schwing!

John L. Sullivan - Cool story from where I live!
William Muldoon - Cool story! Served his country and was just a badass mofo!

I have a few others which tend to rotate but these two are always consistent.
Thanks,

Not vintage, but I collect Lou Brock as I am a Cardinal fan, and he was my favorite player growing up.

I collect Arky Vaughan cards and memorabilia. I think he's the second best shortstop of all time, but, somehow, he's still terribly underrated. Also, his early retirement and tragic death are interesting aspects of his life story.

...who played, coached and started his bat company here in Columbia. After 2 cards, the rest of the fun is in hunting memorabilia.

In short, interesting players that have nice variety of "types" are fun to collect.

memories.
very minor for me since i focus on one card per type 1900-1936.

still, the only multiples i 'collect' are cards of my boyhood favorites from the late 50's and early 60's---Runnels is in the lead presently

As a career soldier, a baseball player in my younger days, and an avid fan now, I have been collecting those "soldier players" from the past. Currently, Ted Williams and Christy Mathewson are my focus.

Went to my high school some 74 years before me. My first baseball game when I was 7 was on Hugh Bedient field...

Lots of variation in the stuff I am able to get, from main stream releases to premiums, to oddball cards, and even some foreign cards.

Just a small reason really, the larger ones are that we share a heritage and a position (while I was still in my baseball days)
