Would love to have them, but I'm a low budget collector, these are already out of my price range. I would be interested in any one of the players after the fact however:rolleyes:

yep, I never thought is was a big deal in the past but a lot of people no longer religiously search ebay so it really can make a huge difference.

I let the cat out of the bag oops, well no way no how I can afford even one of these but the only other "card" that I know of for George McConnell is a T200 NY AL, which is REALLY out of my league. So I just thought maybe....

PS I truly did not know one was not supposed to "out" a bay auction here... didn't know it was/is so competitive

On the bright side, the chances have improved that the seller will get more for his or her cards, so that's a good thing. It's not a game of hide-and-seek, you know.

Depends on what the seller does with his new found riches. If he "foolishly" spends the money, that's good for the country's economy. If he just sits on it, he's not helping.

Jim,

Honestly, you shouldn't sweat it. There are just as many people on the board who think it's no big deal to post about a current auction as there are people who have a problem with it. There's no "rule" one way or another. Don't worry about it.

Nah, it's not competitive. Why would a long time board member think that?

Based on the rise of this lot throughout the day it is not unreasonable to suggest that his lot might go over 1000.00 dollars before its over. It is already at $650.00:eek:

Whilst it is up to the Board member to decide whether or not he/she/we should out an e-Bay auction, we have to disagree about the competitive nature ofbaseball memorabilia collecting.

In building one of the world's premiere baseball type card collections, we have long recognized that this is a game with only two possible outcomes:

Winning or Losing

We work around the clock, 365 days a year, to develop lead sources, uncover opportunities and a bid strategy which enables us to win 66% of the time on key items. Whilst we consider a number of collectors and dealers friends, when we face them on the old cardboard battlefield, they are the enemy. We are prepared to fight them to the end to acquire what we want. We select our targets, analyze the opportunities and plan our attack.

As Vince Lombardi famously noted; Winning is the not most important thing
it is everything.

You must understand my reasoning for outing this auction is purely motivated by my desire to further another fellow board member's collection, why we all know that every baseball ephemera collector is generous and always keeping an eye out for one another. Just the other day I witnessed an act of pure generosity on this very board. However if by chance a fellow board member didn't see this auction and now wins it and by a bigger miracle doesn't need the McConnell and wants to show their appreciation by donating said card... well :D:D:D:D

You should work LONGER hours getting your quotes correct. The correct quote is: "Winning isn't everything. It's the only thing." And Lombardi didn't say it first. It was Red Sanders, the former football coach at UCLA. He said it as early as 1950. Lombardi, who may have heard it from Red, didn't use it (or any reasonable facsimile) until 1959 or so.

Didn't you learn how to research at that fancy Ivy League school? :D

Edited to add: Yes. Yes. I know. You will respond to my arrow with a nuclear (or is it "nucular") attack. You will drive my red neck, chicken fried steak eating, big game hunting, ass back into the Stone Age, etc., etc, etc. Blah, blah, blah.

Jim your needling remarks brought attention to our thread. Since it was launched we have picked up 3 high grade type cards for a total expenditure of $4300. Keep up the good work! In life and in war, when one is attacked one has the right, in fact, the obligation to respond. We hate to take up time and space on the board responding to your cynical comments- however, if you want to shoot arrows, we will be happy to return the favor with nuclear missiles. You must be chewing on some weird tobacco down there in Honky Town. We often step on roaches walking the streets of upper Manhattan near Yankee Stadium. They are certainly a higher form of life than you. Perhaps, you could make better use of your time--like flipping burgers or tacos- minimum wage sounds appropriate for your skills and intelligence. Tell us, is English your first language or is it Pig Latin? We wonder if your obsession with masturbation emanates from the fact that you can't satisfy your wife or that she is sick and tired of you. Whilst we are unaware of your social activities, might we suggest a visit to Chicago- attend the Jerry Springer show. It appears that the women participants, albeit a bit smarter than you- would be your perfect match. Do you prefer little girls or little boys? Personally, we'd like to see you cross the border from Mexico into Arizona and see what our hero, Sheriff Joe Arpaio and his team, do to solve the Jim VB problem. In fact, it would be best if we you threw you in the barn with a bunch of smelly old cows horses, and pigs and they could BS all over you. We're sure it is about time to go feed the pigs and the other members of your family. Keep up good work, Mr. BS. Whilst, you, your fellow low-life red necks and other "sorted" followers would not know or appreciate an ultra rare high grade card if you fell on it, we take comfort in knowing that you are probably consuming high grade spam. Perhaps they will issue a special exhibit card when you do the world a favor and end it all. Looking forward to reading about your demise. We read the obituaries. We laugh out loud, when an evil card collecting bastard name appears. Please make us laugh soon. So little boy, while you keep whining..we'll keep adding to America's Toughest Want List.

How long ago did you inhale the nerve gas? Time to take another
dose.

You are a waste of fresh air. We certainly do think of you every time
we step on a roach. We crush it instantly...we'd take more time with you.

FYI- we did not say that Lombardi authored the phrase.

Wonder if you care to match card collections?.You never manage to speak about cards...how come?

Go back into the corner and swallow your tobacco- maybe a few more horses
will kick you while you are doing the pigs.

None of my neighbors have horses, except for the guy with the indoor equestrian ring. I've never seen a pig in the neighborhood. And no one I know has chewed tobacco since high school baseball (It was cool back then.)

But I think you should stop insulting all the fine people who live in Texas. You might just say the wrong thing and piss off Leon, or Scott, or Jeff. They all seem like nice guys. I don't know why you don't like them.

Which part of my collection did you want to talk about?

Nice collection Jim!

Just a thought though...They now make some smallish holders that just fit the card. They're much better on space and far cheaper than those view binders.

Oh wait, maybe there's more cards inside the binders?

Nevermind.
