38" wide x 23"tall x 5" deep

Anyone know about this 1960 Giants Team Photo Illuminated Falstaff Sign? Anyone seen another? Is it rare? I don't recall seeing another.

I picked this up in an antiques shop in Sacramento last Sunday (right after the Seabiscuit poster)....It's huge and weighs a ton....I think mayby someone added the wood frame....it has a Falstaff sticker on the back...also if you turn the dials on the side you can rotate it to display another photo of the 1960 49er's...but I'm afraid to turn it it's so old.

I had to give somewhat serious money but couldn't leave without it...It was very striking when I first saw it...but then when the dealer lit it up....phew....I had hard time saying no.....It was so heavy I left it in my trunk overnite...in the morning I got up and was really feeling crummy I dropped that much on a 1960's/contemporary piece...as the morning wore on I fineally went to get it out of my trunk....I drug it in and set it up on my fridge and plugged it in and...whoa....then I understood why i got it....I haven't even cleaned the plexiglass and it looks killer....I think anyway....

Never seen it before. Another incredible find Carlton.

Falstaff issued at least 3 team pictures of the SF Giants, 6x8, advertising pieces from 1959, 60, 61.
Here is the 1960, I have the three I mentioned and I don't know if there are any others.

Just a guess here but I think the electrical/mechanical part of the display originally held two Falstaff beer ads which the bartender or whoever could rotate to kind of keep the advertising fresh. Someone took that and added the extra wood for the frame and support and put in the baseball and football photos.

I say this because the electrical/mechanical part has the Falstaff label attached and is small enough to display on a wall with possibly a plastic frame around it. With the heavier wood frame, it would be really hard to display something like that on a wall in a bar or pub. Also, as far as I can see, the baseball photo in your display does NOT have any Falstaff advertising on it like the other piece RichardSimon has shown in his comment.

Of course, I very well could be wrong.

Thanks all...I emailed a Falstaff collector this evening, and will be interested to see what he has to say about it.

David, Thank you very much for your input and speculation.

I think the black wood frame was added...probably because whoever did it thought it deserved a better frame....I think previous to the black wood frame, there was a plastic frame with Falstaff advertising....Moreover, I would guess the entire assembly except for the black wood frame, photos and all, are original, commissioned by Falstaff.

If the assembly originally held two Falstaff beer ads, it seems fair to assess whoever replaced them would have had to find or create photos of the 1960 Giants and 49ers the same size as the Falstaff ads (the Giants photo is 28" wide x 14" tall).

I don't have the energy to take it apart right now...but by looking in the sides with the light on, I can see the back of the Giants photo doesn't have a backing like a normal photo and appears to be designed to be translucent and emit light.....which sounds like a special order....

Moreover, removing and replacing the Falstaff beer ads from the professionally designed mechanical scrolling system, with not one but two photos, seems beyond ambitious....it's all conjecture and I suppose it's possible, but from my perspective I'm not seeing it.
