I've seen a few Royal Match baseballs over the years...if you won this auction you got a pretty good deal. Can't tell you anything about who presented it to Whetstone or why though.

I watched that ball until the bitter end. Just couldn't pull the trigger with all that non-baseball related ink (so I think). You got a great deal, in my mind. If it were clean, I would have expected it go for three times the price, maybe more. About a year ago, there was a horrible beater that sold for $56. That's the only other sale that I can specifically remember. The best part about that sale was the packaging. Yours is much nicer all around. Congrats.

I'm pretty sure it is made in Japan...I've seen clean examples sell in the $300+ range. The nice thing about your ball is that you can still display the ball next to the container and it will look like a clean example because all of the writing is on the other side of the ball.

I'd leave it alone too. It will still display as a clean ball...What I would be doing though is trying to figure out the significance of the writing on the ball.

Poorly written post deleted. The short version is that I believe the last name of the signer may be Dunn/Cliffe or Junn/Cliffe rather than Junnicliffe.

My guess on the name would be Leslie Tunnicliffe (Mgr).... as for the ink, I'm with Dan, leave it alone for now. It may be baseball related, and if not, it will display nicely anyway.

Maybe with a dry white rag, but definitely no water.
