I am just getting into this and need a good reference book on baseball collectables. I am not into the cards just the gear. Bats, mitts, and other equipment. I have to order it over the web since I live in the boonies and our bookstore is almost nonexistant. thanks for your advice.

Some excellent books on memorabilia include:

1) Complete Guide to Baseball Memorabilia by Mark Larson

2) Sports Equipment Price Guide by Dave Bushing

These I consider to be foundation references for memorabilia collectors to help identify and date various pieces.

This is a great book that includes tons of color images, and price estimates.

For bats, Dave Bushing's Mastronet Reference and Price Guide for Collecting Game Used Bats taught me a lot. I suppose Vince Malta's later and bigger Complete Guide to Louisville Slugger Professional Player Bats could stand alone, now. I enjoy reading things at the Mears sight, by the way.
