With no major show this summer in the Boston-area, a few of us thought it'd be a great idea to put together a lunch on July 31. It'll be a chance for all of us in the Boston-area to see old faces and hopefully meet some new ones. We'll of course have plenty of conversations about the hobby, and maybe some show 'n tell or B/S/T.

The tentative location for the lunch is papa-razzi in Wellesley right by the I-90/I-95 connector. We hope it will be a central location for anyone interested in attending. Lunch will be around noon on 7/31.

I'll probably need to make a reservation depending on the amount of attendees. If we get a lot of interest, we may need to make special arrangements (let's hope we have that problem :D)!

If you're intersted in coming, please RSVP by responding to this post or sending me a private message. I'll plan to coordinate all activity through this thread.

Hope to see some old and new faces!!!

Thanks to Jimmy, Alan and Steve for helping me coordinate.

The Red Sox are playing later that afternoon and with all the restaurants in Kenmore Square, wouldn't it cool to have lunch there and go to the game afterwards? Just saying, but don't mind me, I'm in California :p

Thanks Erich - sounds like an awesome idea and I live five minutes from there - but I'll be away that weekend! I'm guessing the little lady won't be happy if I suggest changing our vacation in order to incorporate a lunch meet-up with the guys from the baseball card message board. Some people just don't understand... :(

Hi-
I am definitely in and Toby is as well. I hope we can arrange more of these throughout the year as I believe there are a fair number of board members who live in this area. Lurkers are welcome too!

Scott and Steve - What if we pushed this back a weekend...to August 7th...would that work for you both.

July 31 is not written in stone!!

Thanks guys - I mentioned to Erich that I couldn't do July 31 or August 7, but if it switched and July 17 or 24, or August 14 or 21 would work for people, then any of those dates would be great for me. Otherwise, hopefully I could make the next event!

Hi-
I have flexibility as well. Although I am sure some folks will not be able to make it on August 7th, as I think the National is going on then. Erich and others, how is 8/14? I will do my best to be there no matter what day it is this summer.
Steve F, I might be able to meet you for a beer in Boston when you are in town. I will email you and let you know.

Alan, Steve will not let you go after just one beer. Let me know, maybe I can carpool some Maine folks in.

The 16th and the 17th are the dates My Everything and me will be tieing one on, starting on the Waterfront. If anyone happens to be in town!. Nothing formal.

Didn't mean to derail the original itinerary... With my insane schedule, I wouldnt be able to commit to that first date.

7/16; Our version of the Freedom Trail;

11-4p; Tia's, The Green Dragon, Hennesey's, An Tain, The Point, Purple Shamrock, Mr Dooleys.

4p-Game time; McGreevey's, Bleacher Bar, Jerry Remy's and the Baseball Tavern

7/17;
The pubs by the Waterfront/North End

Talked with a few of the guys...we're going to stick with 7/31. I think it will be simpler just to stick to a date and see how it turns out. Please keep posting if you're interested in joining!!

Would love to see new faces!

I'd like to be in. I will be at the Pappa-Razzi in Wellesley at noon on 7/31 if it's definately a go. I live in NH and can get there in a few hours. Should we bring a few of our cards for a little show and tell?
Thanks,
Scott (ubiqty)

Hi-
I too am in for the 31st. I say we should bring cards both for show and tell, and maybe some trading. I hope this one will be the first of many to come!

Would really like to make this as I am Beantown at least twice a year but was just out in June. Maybe next time although I am planning to make the GBSCC this Fall so maybe I will catch a few of you at the show. Regards, Michael

A heads-up for you Boston guys about an art exhibit currently at Northeastern entitled "Shades of Greatness: Art Inspired by Negro Leagues Baseball" in case you hadn't gotten word of it. Only runs until July 23rd so it won't coincide with your meet-up, but still might be worth checking out.

Thanks for the 411 David.

If I may add, McGreevey's is about a 15m walk up Mass Av from Northeastern and Fenway is another "1500 steps" furthur.

NEU is also the site of Huntington Ave Grounds (1903, 1904;) WSC champs) and the South End Grds site is adjacent.

Hi Erich and the others involved.
Unfortunately, my wife has other ideas for our day with the kids tomorrow and I won't be able to make it to the lunch. I will miss it but please keep me on the list of interested people for the next one.
Sorry and thank you for your efforts,
Have fun,
Scott.

It was great seeing everyone today. There were some absolutely amazing pieces displayed for "show and tell." Many thanks to Erich for organizing the lunch. Hopefully we can make this a regular event!

When NY organized a dinner the thread went to 400+ posts; when Boston organized a meal -- they got it all done in less than 30.

Yesterday's lunch was one of the highlights of my summer! What a great group of guys that gathered to talk vintage cards, the hobby, and bring some very interesting pieces for show and tell!

Thanks to every one that joined us (even a lurker - yes you Jamie!!!). We hope to see more folks at the next lunch which will be soon based on the popularity of this one.

Best,
Erich

Exactly. A NYC dinner thread dinner requires 400 posts; Boston about 30. Peoria could get it done in 7.

I wish the northern Virginia Net54 group could ever get 7 or 8 guys to come to a lunch on a Saturday. :(:(:(:(:(
