FELLOW MEMBERS,
I REALLY NEED YOUR HELP WITH THIS ONE. I JUST RECEIVED THIS ONE FROM PSA TODAY AND I'M TOTALLY BAFFLED ABOUT THE GRADE GIVEN. I NORMALLY ACCEPT WHAT COME BACK. HOWEVER, I JUST CAN'T ACCEPT THIS GRADE:confused: THIS PSA, BUT COME ON. TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK. NOT ONE WRINKLE,CREASE, OR PAPER LOSS.

...you're missing the wrinkle or the glue residue.

Wow. Great centering on both front and back.....don't see any major stains. If you say that there are no creases/wrinkles, then I would think that that card should be a 6 at least, maybe even a 7.

I recently ran across a 1935 National Chicle football common that could easily grade an 8 or better. This is exactly the reason I am going to pay someone else to send it to the grading company who has an established reputation instead of doing it myself.

Hi Larry,

It looks like an error. I would crack it open and re-submit it next time you send PSA a batch. This has happened to me a few times.

Larry,
That thing is trimmed, must have given it the 3 for craftsmanship.
Just kidding! Those are the lumps, but that is one sharp card.
Hope all is well,
Bob

I've seen a Yogi berra RC with a 1/4" Surface wrinkle graded ex 5.

Sometimes I wonder if they under-grade on purpose so that you re-submit. On the most recent batch that I sent in they obviously under-graded two of my cards. The strange thing is I also feel like they over graded another two of them. If the same guy graded all of the cards that I sent in then he is either horribly inconsistent or in too much of a hurry to accurately grade. I'm no pro but I assessed the grades on the other cards I sent in the same way he did.

Anybody have any idea what the job of professional grader pays? I wouldn't think it would be a lot.

This situation is one of the many reasons to forgo grading. Spend money on cards, not getting cards graded.

Man that's a harsh grade. I still can't figure out how PSA gives out half grades either. How does that not get a 3.5 grade at a minimum? I have seen 3's like this and 4's that should be no brainer half grades and others that are graded with a half grade and look like crap. You should definately get another opinion.

Looking at the scan it looks like a 5 to 5.5 and maybe even a 6. There has to be something that we can't see? That card, with no hidden defects, is more than 1 grade above a 3, imo.

Also, I am assuming Larry, who started this thread, meant to say in his title that he usually doesn't complain, instead of complaining.

The grade is WRONG imho, even if there is a minor wrinkle that you have not yet been able to locate under 10x loupe (You may have to hold the card at an angle.). PSA gives 6s to cards with minor wrinkles. This is simply an obvious mistake. They should re-grade at no charge.

P.S. Larry, you can unlock the UPPER CASE with the button on the left of your keyboard. :)

Will PSA provide explanation of grade if you request it? I got a handful of 3s that look far worse than that card.. i understand the pyramid theory but that card is crazy nice looking...

When I think of all the money I have wasted grading cards, its sad. I don't get cards graded anymore and I enjoy collecting so much more. You really should spend money on the cards and not for slabs.

Great looking card, Larry. No matter what grade PSA haphazardly assigned the card, you will be hard pressed to find a better looking example. Very good looking card.

This E94 I own is in a PSA 3 holder.

Jim Joyce is human, so is PSA I guess.

A grading company is simply two guys' opinion on a card, according to a rigid set of guidelines. When PSA or SGC slab a card and give it a label, it doesn't mean the card is a 3, 4, or whatever. It means two old guys think its a 3 or 4.

The problem isn't grading companies entirely, the problem is treating them as if they are infallible, or should be, and if not, its an extreme injustice. As this week's events show, nobody is perfect (except Braden, Halladay, and Galarraga, but even then, likely just once in their life).
