View Full Version : OT - respectfully asking for prayers for my wife...

Dear fellow forumites,
I come to you, with hat in hand, asking, respectfully, for prayers for my young wife. She is 41 and had been diagnosed with lung cancer that has spread to her brain.
I am 34 years old and we have a five year old son at home.
I am rather new to this website, but I wanted to let everyone know what I am dealing with. We have to go on living, but wanted to let everyone know what my family is dealing with.
With a five year old at home, we are determined to fight this with everything we have, but if I make a promise for a card, but it takes me a day or two to get the payment out, please understand that I have a number of things on my plate. But if I say I will pay for something, I will! My family issues come first, but I will honor all promises I made.
Your internet friend,
Paul

Paul, My heartfelt prayers go out to you, your wife and your son. Best of luck fighting this horrible disease. My brother was diagnosed two years ago and underwent a barrage of treatments and a 13 hour surgery, then another barrage of treatments. Fortunately he has had clean scans for the past 10 months and we hope he has beaten it. It's one of the hardest things to face in life, but please be strong.

Paul, my prayers are with you. I can't imagine what you're going through, but I know three things: God is in control (Proverbs 16:33), He listens to the prayers of His people (2 Chronicles 7:14), and He can do the impossible (Luke 18:27). May God bless and heal your wife.

My family has been plagued with various forms of cancer throughout the last decade and all have overcome their battles. There is always something positive that comes out of the bad...sometimes it takes time to see the light though. Keep your faith and may God bless!

Absolutely you are in my prayers. I lost my dad a couple of years ago and if I may, let me give you a little advice. Get the best care you can. Not just the care you're most comfortable with or the doctor you like the best. We went that route and while Dad liked his Doc and the place he was treated, we would have probably been better off to go to Ohio State or Duke. Dad did not have a good outcome in either his surgery or treatment and died much too young. We should still be 4 wheeling and going to football games together.

Hi Paul
Very sorry to hear this. Our prayers are with you. Good luck in the battle. I think we all know someone, if not a close family member, to be afflicted with this awful disease. I was speaking with my last living aunt just last night about the chemo she is going through for her cancer. Keep the hope up. warm regards

Paul,
I wanted you to know that I have added your family into my prayers. What is your wife and sons names? I believe in mass prayer. When my daughter was only 3 she was very, very ill and a friend of mine went on-line to a group prayer site and ask for their prayers. She was better so fast the doctors couldn't explain it. But I knew why!! Always remember that when the two sisters, FAITH and HOPE are with you, their big brother WILL is always there too!! THANK YOU TO ALL WHO PRAY!!!

Gentlepeople:
I am truly touched with the out pouring of kindness each of you have extended to both my wife and my family. I am truly humbled.
My wife's name is Karin, and my son's name is Ewan. Here is a photo that is about a year old that shows the centers of my universe. It is one of my favorite photos of my two loves.
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y283/Clark7781/MomandEwan.jpg
We had a good day today. We had a follow-up appointment with karin's oncologist. It has been two weeks since she started the cancer killing drug, Tarceva, and based upon the improvement in her breathing and the sever outbreak of the "Tarceva rash" (google it, you'll see how bad it is) this drug, that doesn't work for everyone, is REALLY working for Karin! Finally, some good news.
We have a CT scan in two weeks on her lungs, and an MRI on her brain in seven weeks; full brain radiation ends next week.
We will see how everything is progressing at that point, but as of right now, Karin symptoms are improving.
Thank you so very much for your kind thoughts, prayers and compassion. As I said before, you all have humbled me beyond words. If there are stronger words than thank you, I can't think of it, so please accept my sincere THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!

Having been down this road with my wife for the last 5 years some very good things will come out of this if you stay strong and keep the faith. Good luck with your journey and may you find peace and strength from friends and loved ones!

My wife has also had lung issues and had Lung volume reduction surgery 3 years ago. Being positive goes a long way! As she says, "They can't bury me if I'm moving". In 2002 the told her she most likely had 5 years to live and recommended she have a lung transplant. We even missed a call from the transplant center due to their mistake. Was a blessing in disguise as with LVRS she has better quality of life and no drugs to prevent rejection. Things will work out in the end. They always do.

Gentlepeople:
Thank you so very much for the kind words, thoughts and prayers for my wife and family.
Late last week during our obligatory two week check-up the doctor said that he is VERY happy to see how well the drug Tarceva is working for my wife. When he first met us two weeks prior to that, Karin couldn't hold a conversation without loosing her breath and coughing. Now, she can walk up stairs and be a little winded, but no where as bad as she was just prior to starting Tarceva.
Also, Karin broke out with a sever case of Tarceva rash after only a few days on the medicine. Usually, if the drug is working, the see the rash begin to start at the 10 to 14 day mark. Karin's outbreak so bad and so soon means only one thing: the drug is working!
We have a CT scan at the end of next week, and an MRI on her brain in seven weeks to see how your issues are doing. We are praying for any type of improvement.
People tell us to fight. Fighting implies that you might loose. We ain't loosing, so our battle cry is that we are on the WAR PATH!
Again, humbly, I thank each of you for taking the time to show your support for my family and for saying prayers for my beloved wife.
Very respectfully,
Paul
