I looked for the other thread that was similar but I don’t remember what it was called sorry. But still wanted to share!

I have come very close after opening today’s mail to finishing this subset. Murphy still could be technically found with Red Hindu and Brown Lenox but none seem to be accounted for as of today. If you know of any please let me know.

I added the BL460 & also the Printers scrap which technically added another back for Murphy. The 350-460 Factory 30 2nd DIST N.Y. as there is no OP. Kind of cool IMO….

So I hope the board will forgive me as I post this but I needed to thank some folks who helped me get to where I am on this Murphy Sub Set I’ve been working on. Big thanks go out to the following folks, Scott B, Scott M, Craig D and Ron R.

Special thanks go to Jim R who played a major role in helping me put the pieces together on this one.

Thanks again to all who helped very happy with this one couldn't have done it without your help.

Cheers,

John

P.S. Paul should I list it now in the BST or wait a few minutes? :)

*Also let me know if the image is too big, I'll post a smaller.

You stole my thunder!

But I still think you should list the cards in the BST, tell us all to %$^# off and then continue to "make friends" on the Board with your positive disposition.

Steve great question according to the rules Ted has been working on with all of our inputs..since Murphy can be found with BL460 he should not be found with Uzit. Also since no Uzit most likely no AB460.

But that does mean he could show up with Red Hindu. As for Brown Lenox I have seen one other card of a player that has both brown and black Lenox versions..so who knows...that's why I'm keeping the check list open just in case.

As for Coupon I'm only aware of Type 2..

Here's what I have so far...looking for upgrades on the AB and Cycle if anyone would part with one..

Well, fortunately for you, my lines of demarcation, concerning morality issues are drawn in the sand! You know how that sand is constantly shifting.

This leaves me with what politicians call, "versatility of conviction." I can do whatever I want and make it "OK".

Fantastic! I will always love looking at other collections.

Question, from a non-T206 guy:
Are there many players that have every possible back (except the Ty Cobb back of course, I don't want to start something ...)

DANG!!! That is a big line of backs!
So are you gonna start the other pose to make the complete Murphy line with the 150 backs?
Thanks for showing,

Very impressive, especially the Sweet Caporal 350-460 Factory 30!

I believe this pose has been reported to exist with the T215-1 Red Cross back, though I have not seen it.

To the best of my knowledge, it does not exist with a T213 Coupon Type 1 back.

Congratulations on your accomplishment,
Craig

Very nice, and it shows how a hobby can go beyond the cards, forming bonds and
friendships with those who share this sickness.... errrr, passion.

That image ranks up there among the coolest I've seen posted on here.

That is what is so facinating about this set. One front with so many different back ads. It is also very nice to see so many members help-its nice to be apart of that.
Now find the red Hindu and the brown Lenox.

AAAAWWWWEEEESSSSOOOOMMMMEEEE ! ! ! !

I can 99.99 % guarantee you that there are no AMERICAN BEAUTY 460 or UZIT backs of Murphy.

Also, I can 100 % guarantee you that there is no 1910 COUPON back of Murphy.

But, you can expect to find a Red HINDU back.

A really great way to collect T206's.

Best regards ole buddy,

The one where he has the white hat. :)

Yes, I totally missed that one! That's a nice one too. :D

In all seriousness, John, this is a very interesting and neat-o collection. Which one would you say has the best image quality? looks to me like the last one on the end. With so many examples to examine, have you noticed any interesting differences or unique qualities of any in particular?

wonkaticket
04-13-2010, 11:44 AM
Jason, great questions actually most of the dozen or so SC 350 Factory 30 cards all have had very deep rich colorful images. The later more obscure backs such as Lenox, Old Mill seem to be a bit more on the grainy side.

One thing I have noticed is the layer printing. Example on Murphy’s side burns they added a black strip to the tip, on most cards where the deep brown in his hair transitions into the tip of the side burn you can sort of see it. On others where the brown is less pronounced it almost looks like there’s he died the tips of his burns. LOL

Huge image here http://photos.imageevent.com/piojohn3/ebay/Murphy-32.jpg

As for why Murphy, no reason upon going thru some 1000+ T206’s I noticed I had a few versions of him. I also had an older scan in my set and upgraded him twice without realizing I already had nice versions of him. Then when I went thru the extras with the intent to sell I made the joke to Jim I should collect all of his backs…all I would need now is the easy ones Lenox, Drum, BL460 etc. Within a few weeks Jim came up with a few contacts of folks that had these and thanks to the superset Scott B sold me the Lenox. As with most any T206 project before I knew it I was in too deep to back out!

God help me the guy who finds the Red Hindu or Brown Lenox will have me by the short and curly’s after I posted this picture LOL.

All joking aside everyone was awesome and fair I never once felt like anyone was taking advantage of the Murphy addiction, in fact some folks were almost excited to help out.

Cool hobby with good folks even with all the gloom & doom of Pat Chan’s, corner pulls and auction house FBI parties.

Cheers,

John

Is the Coupon Cigarettes a T206? I've never seen this back.

No well after the T206 as it's a Type 2, there are some folks who consider Type 1 coupon cards part of the T206 set. The main diff. is the name will be in blue on the later cards, along with diff. back ads.

tedzan

As you know, but for the edification of others on this forum, the T213-2 and 3 are beyond the T206 rubric (namely 1909-1911).

The T213-1 (I refer to them as 1910 COUPON cards) have every characteristic as defined by the T206 rubric.....including their
stylistic back design (see scan). The 68 cards in the 1910 COUPON set comprise of identical fronts of 20 of the T206 Southern
League subjects and identical fronts of 48 subjects from the T206 "350 Series".

Your Murphy card is a subject from the 350/460 series; therefore, no need to hunt down a Murphy from the T213-1 issue.......
it does not exist.

Nice job Mr. M. Very cool. I bet you could get a custom frame that would have glass on both sides so the front would show through as normal but the backs could also be seen on the back of the frame. It'd just be double matting with the mats back to back facing opposite directions. It wouldn't have to be in a row as your picture show - they could be like that or in any other arrangement. Then instead of hanging it, have it mounted on a short rotating stand so it sits on a shelf or table.

Of course, you'd have to leave two blank spots for the red H and brown L. :-)

Thanks for the scan - it looks really awesome to have them laid out like that.

J
