Hi-
I recently acquired the catcher's mask pictured below and I was hoping someone might be able to help with some questions I have.
1. Approximately when was it made?
2. Is it indeed a catcher's mask?
3. I know it is just the metal frame, but any idea what company made it?
4. When were the ear protectors introduced?
Any additional information you can provide about the mask is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,

Alan,

The real heavy wide masks with thick steal were introduced in the 1920s like thick spider masks, spitters and other real solid frames. Earlier masks are your birdcage or googly eyed examples and 19th century are more open. It defiantly appears to be a baseball catchers mask frame, just hard to identify maker maybe 1920s, but most likely 1930s.

and thanks for the bat!

Jimmy
