1912 Colgans Chip Question

I am curious as to whether the following discs are worth grading due to the writing on the back. Some are in pencil and some in pen and some are blank.

Any idea of a ballpark value for the group? Thanks, Mike

The value A LOT!!!!! WOW what a find! These are very though to find as they are the red boarder variation. Goodluck with these you should get at least $100 each for just the commons more for the better and tougher players. Very nice lot. If you want to sell please let me know but I am sure you are getting a lot of emails or PM's. I hope this is not a joke as it looks like anamazing find. Get them all graded you will do great with them. SGC holders would look amazing for them. Congrats and good luck. Again please let me know if you want to sell them.

Thats a nice grouping of cards. I would tend to lean against grading by SGC. The problem that I see is that with the writing on the back, the highest grade you can hope for is a 30. If you go with grading, go with PSA since their MK qualifier can differentiate between the nicer cards in the group and the beaters.

As for value, you have some scarce cards. However, Colgans can be kind of a thin market, so you might do better with Buy It Now or on the BST, rather than risking it on .99 auctions. There are a couple of big Colgan collectors here on the board.

I believe you'll do better selling them individually than as a group, at least on ebay, particularly if you make sure not to have them all ending at the same time. An auction house might make you more, but if you need the money sooner rather than later, ebay might work better.

I agree that they do not need to be graded, at least the ones with any markings. Buyers should have a good comfort level that these are authentic, and since Colgan's aren't trimmed, the only possible alteration that could concern a buyer is if red color was added to touch up worn edges or creases.

With the writing I don't know that I would bother getting them graded personally. I look forward to bidding on them regardless of the route you take to sell them. With the writing you know the best grade possible already so it seems a bit redundant w/ this particular collection.
