Need some OJ help

I was looking at the OJ cabinets in REA and noticed that the cards and cabinets are both labeled as N172's. Is there no distinguished label between the both?


Are the cabinets worth more money? Say a basic player in a Authentic grade for the least. great front and clarity to the pic. Maybe a grade 4 or 5 if numerical. Any idea of the authentic grade value??

The cabinets should be labeled as N173's. Cabinets are usually worth more than the N172's, but I'm sure there are exceptions.

Like Dan said N172's are the cards and N173's are the cabinets. Do you have a link to the mis labeled N173? I am sure that SGC would correct the problem if the winner sent it into them.

N173 will always bring more than there N172 counterparts except in the case of the ultra rare N172's from what I have seen. But with N173 it is very important to have the Old Judge Ad on the bottem beacue it is very hard to tell the differance between a studio cabint and a true Old Judge Cig Cabinet.

Unless I'm missing something, there are only two Old Judge cabinets in the latest Robert Edward Auction and both are correctly identified as N173s (lots 98 & 99). All the other Old Judges are N172s.

Speaking in very rough terms, I'd say a typical N173 will cost ~4-5 times that of an N172. A lower condition but presentable N172 might go for $200-250 while the N173 equivalent might go for $800-1250. Multipliers drop a bit on higher grade examples & HOFers. A mid-to-higher grade or nice appearing N172 common might go for $500 while the cabinet equivalent may fetch $1,500-$2500 and so on. As mentioned, the multipliers drop a bit for HOFers since they are among the most common cabinets (Anson, Kelly, etc.). Beyond the generic rules already suggested, other factors should be mentioned/considered. A tough to obtain player will have a premium placed on his N172 and to a lesser extent his N173. Also, on the cabinet side, factors such as mount color (brown, black, red) and advertising (Dogs Head) can add significant value. Last but not least, it's a thin market with no shortages of surprises regarding how much or little arbitrary cards may fetch at any given time.

No I was refering to another sale. The label on the slab was right but the listing for it was wrong. Anyways I think I made the right choice passing on it.
