I bought this bound book that contains every Sugar Bowl program from 59-64.

I paid $300 for the book, and the programs are MINT!!! (I attached a bigger pic to show how MINT they are)

The thing about them, they are bound in the book. The staples are removed, and sewn in through staple holes. Plus they are glued together just on the covers at the spines.

This book includes the National Championship bowl games of LSU in '59 and Bama in '62.

The programs are worth alot ($500 for the '59, $250 for the '60, $300+ for the '62, and $50-$100 each for the other three.

Does anyone know what it would approx cost to unbind them, unglue them (without damaging them), and re-stapling them?

I really only want the '60 program (and maybe the '59 if it comes out better than the one I have).

Based on your description of how it was bound.... it will be very difficult to separate the programs without damaging the spines (or the spines showing obvious evidence of being bound).

I agree...you will not be happy with the outcome.

It is still an awesome item as is, with great programs. Don't disembowel them..haha. :p

I don't plan on doing it myself, I want to get it professionally done. Its like when some one finds an old baseball card glued in folder. I thought there are "book doctors" that maybe able to save them.

A really good paper conservator might be able to do it, but I'd bet it would cost more than the programs are worth.

Most of the book guys rebind stuff where the binding has come apart, and usually that means new glue. It also depends on what sort of glue was used. If it was a fairly old book finelt bound it would probably have some sort of glue that can be undone. But being a 1960's binding for a commercial concern the glue is probably permanent.

Also most book repairs are done so they can be identified as repairs. Hardly noticable to us, but to a book expert the repairs are obvious

I'd keep the bound volume, it looks like a pretty special item. Does it have library markings? I'm thinking it might also be bound for the printing company or for a major sponsor.
