Walked into an antique store and found this in January (raw of course). I thought it was a 6-7 but SGC said there was a wrinkle on the back (I don't see it).

Great pick up at the store. Haven't found any significant baseball item at the antique stores here in Florida yet.

Thank you, Tim. When I saw the item on ebay, I thought it looked better than average in regards to clarity.

Thanks Kary.. I would love to have that corner piece..
If the winner of the Beldon Hill Document and the winner of the other CR Photos would love to sell them to me I would be forever grateful.. (ahem, leon, rhys :) )
By selling them to me you would have the comfort of knowing that they have a great home and that they would be shared with our small community here in CR IA... I have a collectables shop located in the lindale mall and have my CR pieces prominately displayed for public viewing.. These pieces would be a welcome addition! thanks in advance for any consideration..

Bill, do we have any hard proof that the Colgan "square proof" is actually that? I've always had some doubt about the origins of this card. Mine is below:

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/calvindog/2910100804/" title="1909 Colgan's Chip Proof by calvindog65, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3259/2910100804_206f765cbd_o.jpg" width="450" height="771" alt="1909 Colgan's Chip Proof" /></a>

fkm_bky
03-09-2010, 02:01 PM
It was good that Leon ressurected the old topic on this. I don't think they are "officially" proofs, but tend to agree given the size & similarities to Colgan's that they were offered up in a different product. What that was, and when it was distributed are valid and unanswered questions, and may never be unless some big discovery is made. That being said, whether it's a Colgan or not isn't too high on my radar. It's a period card that I didn't have a type of in my set, and now I do so I am happy! Let's hope some light is finally shed in the future and that it turns out that the Criss is the new holy-grail of card collecting! :)

Picked this up at the Philly show. The largest postcard I have ever seen, especially pre-war. HM Taylor PC of presentation of floral horseshoe to Bill Donovan. It measures 7-1/4" x 9-1/4". The scan is approx. 80% of the actual size. And yes, Ty is actually smiling.

Picked these up in the recent Hunt Auction, and had them graded at the Valley Forge show. Very pleased especially with the Wilder which I suspected would grade a 50, although his Momma should have taught him how to correctly button a sweater. Enjoy.

Still looking for T209s from both series, especially color.

Michael,
This Vern Stephens card is from the set that is identified on page 342 of my 2008 edition of the Standard Catalog of BB Cards as "1949 Schumacher Service Station". The narrative in this edition says the location of this service station is unknown and that the year of issue could be either 1949 or 1950, as all the known players were with their identified teams for both years. I don't know if newer editions of the SCBC have any more current info.

Michael,
This Vern Stephens card is from the set that is identified on page 342 of my 2008 edition of the Standard Catalog of BB Cards as "1949 Schumacher Service Station". The narrative in this edition says the location of this service station is unknown and that the year of issue could be either 1949 or 1950, as all the known players were with their identified teams for both years. I don't know if newer editions of the SCBC have any more current info.
Val

Thanks for the information Val. Regards, Michael

Yes, a slight one right above the "ati" in Cincinnati. Still looks better to me than
many higher graded off center cards.

I bought this item with a best offer on eBay earlier today. I have been out bid more times on Kling T207s than any other card I have ever bid on.

I'm happy to find an example that presents as well as this one, and I was able to get it at a price that was lower than many of my previous bids for a Kling T207.

It's not one of the easiest T207s to find.

The B&L package arrived yesterday and in addition to the Obak Wiggs and the Fred Foto McGaffigan which I posted earlier this month were this rare ultra high grade 1909 Obak (gotta love the back) and the talented Mr. Foster.

I am thrilled and I jumped on this right away! I now have a very nice red seen a couple pages back, this blue background, and a beater green that you can see in my album linked below. I am going for all four obviously and I think this is a great card! If someone here won the lot of E98's in the Huggins/Scott auction and would like to trade me the Walsh Orange background I would be even more thrilled! Thanks for looking guys and amazing pickups to everyone else this month, I wish my collection could be as nice and large as yours!

How about $204 shipped? I'll take it! I paid 225 for the Red SGC 30 but like tbob said a few pages ago, it went for double that a couple years ago. Not a bad price at all if the blue is that rare!

all 4 colors are same, none is rare. $200 is not bad for that blue, it looks better than the average 1. i was underbidder on your red and was also underbidder on a 30 green a couple months back.

Picked up this card of Clint Prough in the latest B & L Auction (Thanks Leon and Scott) Prough was from the little town of Zanesville, Indiana, about 7 minutes south of Fort Wayne where I live. He played for Birmingham during the 1911-12-13 seasons. In 1912, he pitched one game for the Cincinnati Reds under Hank O'Day. It was his ONLY appearence in the Big Leagues. He went on to play in the PCL, 5 years for Oakland and 6 years for Sacramento in which he is featured on this card.

Nice card Seth and at a nice price!
I have to disagree with Quan about the Walsh cards. I think not only are they tough but the blue seems to be the toughest. I have owned 6 Walshs, 4 reds, 1 green and 1 orange and rarely saw a blue. The E98s have a first level of toughness which includes Vaughn, Coombs and Mack and a second tier which includes Dahlen, Tenney and Walsh, in my opinion. Matty, of course, is difficult because of its desirability and price as are Wagner and Cobb. If you have big bucks you can pick up Honus and Ty but Matty is harder to spot.
The E98s are really drying up. There was a low grade near set on ebay which went off the other day but other than that (and some high priced BINs), you don't see them like you used to on ebay. E94s are still tougher but the E98s have become harder to find lately.
